U.S. employers added 126,000 jobs in March as the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.5 percent, the Labor Department said Friday. Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had expected net job growth of 250,000 last month. February was revised down from 295,000 to 264,000.
The drop in March is under the average 269,000 jobs added over the previous 12 months. Job creation jumped in February despite harsh winter weather, and the U.S. has added at least 200,000 jobs per month for 12 consecutive months, a feat not seen in 20 years.
However, the sharp gains in job creation in recent months shouldnt be expected to continue, says Tara Sinclair, chief economist at Indeed. Thats a recovery, not a standard. Once we hit full employment, were going to drop well below what weve gotten used to in the last year, Sinclair said.
The average hourly earnings for private-sector workers rose by 7 cents to $24.86. For most workers, however, real wages have fallen or remained flat for more than three decades. Many Americans who work part-time jobs want to work full time, and nearly two-thirds who are able to work have dropped out of the labor force, the highest portion opting out of work since the 1970s. The labor-force participation rate was little changed at 62.7 percent.
The number of Americans who have been out of work for 27 weeks or longer was essentially unchanged last month, at 2.6 million, or 29.8 percent of the unemployed.

The Republicans are in hiding, as usual. But of course we should all vote for them because they’re the “good guys” and they are going to stop Obama, cut spending, and restore integrity in government. /sarc
Yes, I think you’re right about that.
It does, unless you realize that the media, and nearly all of official Washington, has been operating under one guiding principle since 2009: the historic "first black president" cannot be a failure, cannot be corrupt, cannot be traitorous, even if he demonstrably is. He must always be portrayed as smart, inspirational, and completely up to the demands of the job. Operating on this basis, they literally bend reality in an ongoing daily, even hourly, effort to convince everyone that he is the greatest president ever. He's "historic" after all!
Can I come for dinner some time? Sounds yummy.
125,000 jobs minus 200,000 job closures and minus 50,000 new undocumented americans equals unchanged employment rates.
The good news is Obama’s new killer deal with Iran will solve our overpopulation problem.
You’re absolutely right; the politically-correct kid-glove treatment of blacks in academia has spread, first to the workforce and now to the White House. This is the “new normal” in race relations: Blacks simply can’t fail, even when they fail miserably. The rest of us are to pretend they are complete success stories, regardless of whether or not they can read cursive or whatever.
We are watching Obama’s legacy be invented before our eyes: He is the best president this country ever had. I knew this would be the legacy when he received his affirmative action Nobel Peace Prize; it spread the mentality of the “soft bigotry of lowered expectations” far beyond the democratic Party to the world scene. Any world leaders not on board (Putin, Netanyahu, etc.) are shredded in the Dem media.
Long way to go for a meal...lol. If you’re ever in DFW, send me a message.
lower than expected employment <- harsh weather <- global warming <- drink
