I think this is a move in the right direction. The state shouldn’t be in the marriage business...

Exactly! And a lot of other “licenses” that states have gotten into over the years should be done away with as well like barbers, nail salons, florists, the list is endless. But they have gotten used to the “license fees,” so that’s the real issue. Along with these needless licenses, the state boards that were created to “manage the licenses” need to be disbanded. But again, the bureaucratic staffs being put on the street will be an issue.

Been saying the same for a very long time that the State should not be in the marriage business.

The "State" (Government) got involved in the "marriage business" when the King of England decided to tax marriages. Prior to that, marriage was a religious ceremony only.

In modern day America, a marriage license is really nothing more than a "contract" between two people and the state. That contract defines what happens when the marriage fails, how assets are to be divided, etc..

I think every state needs to "get out of the marriage business" and simply tax married couples like everyone else.

That would certainly remove at least some "incentive" for homo's to marry, and they darn sure wouldn't find a good bible believing church that would "marry" them either.
