Gov. Christie on Thursday pardoned a Philadelphia mother who had faced up to five years in prison for bringing a gun into the state that was legally registered in Pennsylvania but not in New Jersey. --snip-- The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office originally denied the woman an opportunity to enter the diversionary program, indicating it wanted to use the case as a deterrent for people bringing guns that aren't registered in New Jersey into the state.

Thank you, Chris Christie. You should have done this a long time ago.

I was wondering the same thing.

I remember when I got my first permit in a Pennsylvania county bordering New Jersey, the deputy told me to never take a gun to Jersey. “We can’t help you” he said. That was about 1984.

She should never have been charged in the first place.

Yep, went to NJ! But it could have been worse .... she could have gone to NYC and she would have surely been doomed.

You actually have a better chance of getting relief through prosecutorial discretion in NYC than in NJ.

Christie Creme is still OK with hanging NJ residents on their unConstitutional laws though I presume.

she’s a girl. and i carried a large dinner knife and my bike tool kit thru TSA in my carry on to california last summer. I use the bag for my lunch and the knife must have slid out of my lunch bag. and actually she has a god given right to carry that far surpasses any local new jersey law. I forget how the cop discovered the gun. but you are correct you don’t need to disclose anything.

The cop didn’t discover it. She opened her big, fat mouth during a traffic stop for an illegal lane change.

Responsible gun owners know the laws in the states through which they travel, especially when their young children are traveling with them.

She was irresponsible and acted stupidly at a traffic stop. She didn’t deserve to be arrested and jailed for her stupidity though.

Took him long enough! NJ gun laws are among the most restrictive in the country. A permit to carry requires that you prove the need, and for the unconnected the proof is almost never enough.

What don’t they get about “shall not be infringed”?

She also stupidly forgot to be named Lois Lerner, Hillary CLinton, Jon Corzine, John Gruber, Al Sharpton,Kathleen Sebelius or Charly Rangle...or Bob Menendez!

I forget how the cop discovered the gun.

She told the cop who stopped her that she had the permit and the firearm was in the car, as she would have in Pennsylvania with no consequences.

she believes she is living in a constitutional republic where god given rights to travel and carrying firearms for personal protection are guarnteed under our constitution. silly girl. the nj law and every law about firearm carrying is already on its face unconstitutional. you don’t give up rights when you travel from pa to nj. the pa ag should have sued the nj ag one minute after she was arrested/detained

Until we have a SCOTUS ruling that makes it clear to the states, responsible gun owners must obey the laws. It’s either that or take up armed rebellion.

But to your point, she was not intentionally defiant as a demonstration of her constitutional rights. She was just plain ignorant. She volunteered the fact that she was carrying ... at a traffic stop for an illegal lane change! She should have valued her 4th Amendment right as much as her 2nd.

the local talk guy had her on today. she spent 48 days in jail of a 12 year sentence. i agree with your assessment. open rebellion or accept the punishment of an unconstitutional government. Christie did the right thing.
