Harry Reid's been an officially church sanctioned "Visiting Home Teacher" in the DC area. The Mormon church has put Harry Reid "to work."

The people in Gadianton Harry’s ward can do something if he is called to do a job other than home teaching. The name is put before the congregation for a sustaining vote, which is usually unanimous. They then ask for those who oppose to raise their hand. The bishop will then probably pull those people aside to discuss their opposition to the person being in that job.

I suspect that if enough people take issue, he would most likely be precluded from holding a position. But the final power is in the hands of his bishop and then his stake president. His bishop is the main guy tho.

Every man in the Church is assigned to be a home teacher... it's part of serving others.
