"I live inside the beltway of washington dc where a good percentage of evangelicals sitting in the pews work for the feds —a huge percentage of whom think that persecution of Christians is only 2-3 generations off."

I think that is a very generous time estimate. Targeting Christian businesses to force them to perform services for homosexual ceremonies and other functions is persecution. Using governmental force to put the owners out of business and ruin their lives with damages is persecution. And the widespread harassment and threats against such businesses and individuals is persecution.

This is all moving very fast and it won't be long before the state moves again church officials and prohibits sermons that say the wrong thing under penalty of law. It also won't be long before school sex ed classes not only treat hetero and homo sexuality as equals but encourage strongly that students try out various orientations before deciding what they are.
