In his testimony, in trying to explain why he fled the scene, he claimed that as he was exiting the car Mary Jo was punching and pushing him. Poor guy! Supposedly he was getting beat up by her.

Truth is he was standing on her in order to get out of the car. And then, he did not bother to grab her hand to help her out.
