You are right, I went on the pump last year, and gained about 20 pounds. The idea was to get off the 7 injections a day (lantus, victoza, and novolog, plus metformin pills). But since the weight gain, he put me back on victoza once a day (in addition to the pump) to help control weight gain. That was last month, I am not sure if it’s really working that well, I lost 3 pounds in a month, but that could be from anything.

The continual basal flow of Novolog just puts on the pounds, but I am happy to say my A1C is now around 7.5 on average, where before I was 10-11 with the 7 injections. Type 2 btw.

As a side note, I would recommend the Medtronic Insulin pump to anyone who has more than a few daily injections. Painless insertions, I can look to see what my BG level is at any time, and it has warnings of high and low BG levels. You just put in the carbs you eat and it automatically sends the right amount of insulin. It’s been a life saver for me.

He’s already lived 34 years longer than he ever deserved, and live far better than he deserved.

"Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal is in intensive care for treatment of diabetes and is “not doing well,” his family said Tuesday"

Neither is the policeman he shot. Bye bye Mumia.

"Insulin actually will make you gain weight. "

I didn't know that. My uncle died because of diabetes. He was thin as a rail all of his life. He was very-very careful about his insulin shots and eating. He died at age 97 from loosing his balance and falling while he was filling his syringe. He broke some ribs, and got pneumonia.

Thank you kindly.

All I can say is that night the Lord said it was not my time to go. Out of control diabetes is a truly fearsome thing.

Fortunately I have that condition under control, and I have not experienced that again.

well his decline could be slow and painful..the eyesight going...the kidneys...maybe losing his legs...maybe not being able to digest things normally...

he might have a whole range of painful exp. to live thru before death.....so there's that...

"he died from diabetes at age 97???...."

If he hadn't had diabetes, he wouldn't have broken his ribs filling his insulin syringe, so Yes.

To pick a nit, Obama cannot pardon Mumia, who is serving a Pennsylvania state sentence, not a federal one.

I've heard that from other sources.

I was under the impression that the POTUS could pardon anyone.

Ask your doctor about a new FDA approved med called Belviq. It's specifically recommended for patients diagnosed with obesity, high BP, and/or Type II diabetes. I've been on it for about three weeks now, and have dropped about ten pounds. And my activity level is still low due to a slow recovery from a staph infection in my leg last year. They even have one month free trial prescriptions, to let you get a feel for the effectiveness. So far, I haven't noticed any side effects. Other than my pants fitting looser.

Oh, man, sorry to hear that. But at 97, he lived a full life. Makes you wonder how long he'd have kept on had it not been for an accident like that. Wow. Dying while trying to take a med to help you live longer. Something about that just isn't cosmically right. But yes, insulin generally makes you gain weight. Every doctor I was seeing at the time it was added to my pharmaceutical regimen (don't get me started on THAT) would kind of hang their heads like they didn't want to address it and say, yes, it'll make you gain weight. But, if you looked at my BMI and weight history over the past 15 or so years, it would look like a fibrillating EKG, so I couldn't 100% vouch for that. My weight is currently on the downswing due to a new med added to my regimen, so I'm hopeful.

I’m curious about that weight gain due to insulin comment also. My spouse is diabetic, currently well under control and not taking any meds, but for years took lantus. Thin as a rail before, and thin as a rail after years of lantus. Probably it’s genetically based rather than lifestyle diabetes.
