IRS says it's OK if you fail to say you have insurance on return

The IRS may be the ogre of government but when it comes to enforcing its rules on Obamacare, it's positively puppyish. Millions of people who don't have insurance are having the penalty waived. They are going to trust that your coverage meets Obamacare mandates without checking.

Now, if you fail to mark your return indicating that you have insurance, why that's perfectly alright with the IRS.

Washington Examiner:

The Internal Revenue Service told the Washington Examiner it will not penalize anyone who has insurance but neglected to check the box.

However, a taxpayer may be asked by the agency if they have health insurance if their return is flagged during a routine check.

"The IRS routinely follows-up on the accuracy and completeness of tax returns, and in this situation, taxpayers should be prepared to respond to correspondence," said Ubon Mendie, a spokesman for the IRS.

He added that taxpayers who already filed their returns don't need to amend the returns solely to indicate they neglected to check the box.

The clarification is an example of how much of the country will be affected by Obamacare this tax season.

Obamacare customers will have to fill out new forms detailing the plans they selected and how much they will receive in tax credits.

The Obama administration is also making a fervent, last-minute push to warn taxpayers about the pending Obamacare penalty.

They’ll just reserve the right to hold your mistake against you at a later date just in case you try to run for office or piss off some bureaucrat or the president himself.

Selective laws are unjust laws.

Abolish the IRS

And there’s no problem lying to skirt unjust laws.

I never thought I’d say that, but we are going to have to resort to lying to exercise freedom - increasingly so.

Again, apparently the law is whatever Obama decrees it is. Where does this stop?

Wonder what happens if you accidentally check “I have insurance” if you don’t...

Wonder if SCOTUS will consider this during King v Burwell? I am concerned that somehow the IRS allowing users to not check the box has something to do with this.

Sorry, guys. My hard drive crashed and I lost the correspondence.

Where on my 1040 form do I have to checkmark that I have insurance?

I have not done my taxes yet. I also had no health insurance last year.

The way this article is written it only speaks to those that DO have insurance. It’s kinda like saying that if a person doesn’t have proof of insurance in their car, but they DO have auto insurance, well, they won’t have to pay the ticket when they can’t show it to the cop that pulls them over. But what is the story regarding those that don’t have insurance.

I suppose the answer is actually clear - for them this article is irrelevant. It doesn’t apply.

Why not? Eventually the rest of us are going to wind up paying for their insurance anyway.

I have no problem with that considering how corrupt, and frankly, evil the federal government has become. Thirty-eight million dollars given to finance Ted Kennedy's "Institute". Millions for Obama's golf trips and Moochelle's shopping excursions.

Billions upon billions of dollars stolen by the Feds to fund ridiculous progams. Billions given to finance the enemies of America. The State Department lost six billion dollars and no one is held accountable. Nearly a trillion dollars of "stimulus" money spent and nothing to show for it. I'm for keeping as much money in my pockets as possible.

' Selective Enforcement'... the darling of every thuggy totalitarian regime since the dawn of civilization...

Means if you're 'in the community' of those favored you get a pass. If you're a white Christian or Tea Party member - the IRS has something to use against you.

'Selective enforcement' is against the law....
