I don’t fault them at all; it rings hollow when they do so then tell a bunch of other black females (who don’t do that) how beautiful they are.
I agree with you on it ringing hollow to do any of those sorts of events. If anything, it probably backfires that you’ve got to have a special rally to tell you you’re beautiful for being black—by delivering the underlying message that many people apparently don’t see it that way.
But this is a troubled population and I’m not going to fault those reaching out the best way they can figure out how, when I personally am not making similar or other efforts myself. Sometimes attention alone can have a positive affect.
