4 yrs in any branch of our Military starting as a E1 should be mandatory.

Want a real leader. Lt Col. Allen West war time experience.

Peace time unprepared to fight ISIS or jihad gets you disasters like Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

Quit putting up stupid fools who want power but not responsibility.

“I’d MUCH more like an American Eagle Scout as President, than a Kenyan Illeagle Sabouteur”

Off to the punitentiary for that one, but, it’s an appropriate pun.

“Being an Eagle Scout was a stepping stone for my personal success.
It gave me budding leadership experience.
It gave me life skills.
It gave me a foundation in organizing and planning.
As a young man there are few places where you get that kind of a head start.”

You stated that well. As a former Cub Scout Den Leader (5 yrs) and the proud mother of an Eagle Scout, I have personally seen what The Boy Scouts of America has done for a group of boys who are now all in their mid-twenties. The boys who EARNED the Rank of Eagle Scout have all done well in life. Having “Eagle Scout” on their resumes has opened door for them. My son, who has worked steadily since age 15 (worked even through college), said that Eagle Scout was a factor. Every interviewer has mentioned, “I see you are an Eagle Scout tell me about your project”. EARNING Eagle Scout shows that he has the commitment for hard work and
follow through.

The skills the boys learn are priceless. People who put down the BSA have no firsthand knowledge of the program.

Note: my son’s Eagle Scout friends are still a tight knit group that includes a West Point Graduate, a DNA biologist, an electrical engineer, a stockbroker, a mechanical engineer, and a sheriff. All are 25 to 27 and are all EMPLOYED!

Sadly, while Boy Scout of America has squandered it’s legacy to the altar of political correctness, the benefits of being an Eagle Scout are still strong.

I was a Scout leader at several levels and had a small part in leading many boys to Eagle, including my son.

Yes, it’s a kids club, but the benefits they gained set them well above their peers at almost every level.

We are now with Trail Life USA, a new Christ centered boys outdoor adventure program. Our motto is Walk Worthy and we center the program around Adventure, Character and Leadership.

Trail Life has a pinnacle award known as the Freedom Award. We refer to it as Eagle Plus. In addition to the rank advancements and the servant leadership project, a young man must engage in several Freedom Experiences. These can be in any of about 12 focus areas including outdoors, service, ministry, technology etc.

My youngest son is volunteering for a few weeks as a camp counselor as one of his experiences. A week long backpack trip may be another.

Any young man who sticks with a program to the end, sometimes for ten plus years is to be commended, not denigrated.

I enjoyed scouting for the hiking and camping but I never cared about racking up merit badges. I got out as a Life scout. But I respect Eagle scouts.

but I do not believe the rank alone should be the qualifying factor on why you're fit to do something

Where does it say Walker said this was a qualifying factor?

The First Point of the Scout Law: A Scout is Trustworthy

Holding closed-door meetings with donors during which amnesty for illegals is discussed is not a particularly good way to engender trust.

What we learn as youths is the base for our future life.

Boy scouts has the highest standards and teaches the importance of truth, honesty, dedication, honor, and doing the right thing, Always. As a standard and guide for living life it has sound principles to stand on. As does Christianity.

What we experience in our formative years/youth is what we will live by as adults. Some times we do fail to achieve the high principles we know are possible.

I concur it bodes well for him to be a high principled leader.

No reason to criticize Scott Walker’s comments.
