Carrying a firearm in California can land you in jail or prison, but it has some lax knife laws in most Counties. My Self Defense folder is a Spyderco Civilian, the next best thing to carrying a concealed firearm:

I carry a fixed-blade karambit in a plastic sheath tied around my neck. After a lot of practice, I'm able to get it out and ready in about a second. Devastating weapon.

I feel naked without my Endura clipped to my pocket. But I prefer to have a firearm as well.
