If that is the truth, then the Captain is a true hero.

Never leave a muslim alone in a cockpit...

So, you lock the door to the cockpit to prevent it from being hijacked, and force every (non-Muslim) passenger to get a cavity search before getting on board... and then you leave axes lying around to chop the door down?

From the article:

“Germanwings has confirmed that an axe was on board for safety reasons, as is routine on all Airbus A320 models.”

Wouldn’t it have been better for the cap to get a bunch of guys together to ram the door down?

1. It’s good to know that those cockpit doors are sturdy enough to keep out bad guys, even if they had an axe.

2. It’s good to know that there’s an axe handy in case a good guy gets locked out.

3. What about bad guys now knowing there are axes handy?

I thought the Axe was kept in the cockpit.

Did he take the axe with him to the bathroom?

From the FAA regulations (I suspect European regs are similar):

Sec. 91.513 — Emergency equipment.

(a) No person may operate an airplane unless it is equipped with the emergency equipment listed in this section. (b) Each item of equipment—

(1) Must be inspected in accordance with §91.409 to ensure its continued serviceability and immediate readiness for its intended purposes;

(2) Must be readily accessible to the crew;

(3) Must clearly indicate its method of operation; and

(4) When carried in a compartment or container, must have that compartment or container marked as to contents and date of last inspection.

...........

(e) Each airplane accommodating more than 19 passengers must be equipped with a crash axe.

You’d think that they would put a combination lock on the door, rather than relying on whomever was inside.
