The Wall Street Journal recently published a strange piece called “Why Cable TV Beats the Internet, For Now.” Despite pay-TV losing 1.4 million customers last year, it seems the WSJ is device-challenged and unwilling to embrace the obvious future dominance of Internet streaming media. And the war to discount your cost for pay-TV is heating up.
Geoffrey A. Fowler of the WSJ’s Person Tech section describes himself as a “tech columnist and someone who watches enough TV to own a Snuggie.” He acknowledges that cord-cutting allows cheaper choices than pay-TV, but strangely he worries that “Internet TV means juggling gadgets.”

Internet only. Add a Roku box to the hdmi connection to the tv or use the wifi connection. Add Netflix for $9 a month and a over the air antenna like the Mohu Leaf.
Save at least $75 a month from not having cable tv.
Me, too. I am a Dallas Cowboy fan living in Florida. Without DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket, I’d be miserable most of the football season. So I won’t be cutting any cable anytime soon. AAMOF, I have two streams of cable TV coming into the house, no thanks to the HOA with its own cable TV setup that is mandatory. I never watch it.
We cut the cord over a year ago. Set up an outdoor antenna with booster and get over 20 HD channels locally including the big ones like Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC etc., plus other local stuff that fills time by playing things like the walking dead, etc. Added Roku recently and it added over 100 more channels.

So far I have enough that I do not elect to use any of the pay services roku offers, but they are there. Same as Cable it looks like. Difference is for the better then basic cable service its costs nothing outside of setup.
Someone pointed it out, I think on FR, that cable companies made the decision some time back to ignore their costumers when they asked for a la carte service. This is a clear example of Malcolm Gladwell’s David and Goliath concept. Goliath was big, established, and immobile and at a huge disadvantage to an adaptable, motivated, and David. He didn’t stand a chance against David. Their solution was to offer even more bloated, bundling services.
No bundling with ours..there were some circumstances.
We had been overcharged..didn’t know we had DVR service, they had years ago given us the wrong box.
So short story is we are grandfathered in for 2 modem outlets because that’s what we signed up for 6 years ago. Now no extra cost.
Plus we get the no bundling deal BUT they offered a cheaper monthly cost if we took the bundling package for 2 years.
I’m sure it will change but if we get a year or two at this rate..even if it’s expensive...we can deal with it.
Not for everybody but we overpaid for several years. They did the right thing and we reached an agreement that we can leave anytime we want.

Has this guy looked at what’s on “all the TV bases”? Nothing watchable that’s for sure. Once people figure out that don’t have to pay for Craptastic TV just to watch the OKC Thunder, then it’s all over for cable.
Me too. With a year left on my contract they give me a mere $15 off my bill. I am preparing to go all in for a deal or move elsewhere later this year. I like their product but the prices have gone through the roof.

Go a couple of years without the NFL. When you come back to it you’ll wonder what you ever saw in it. That’s what happened to me. Anyway, just stream the games online through one of the many .eu websites.
Expect to lose the bundling discount after 2 years. Or check with Comcast periodically for discounts and free stuff. You might be able to extend the discount by signing up for this discount and that.
In the end, Comcast is better. Although the are not very good at phones. But their TV and Internet service is the best (IMO).
As for two modem outlets — cool. Wonder if there is a way to split the traffic between the two and double your speed? Or host a web site out of one and your normal Internet out of the other.

Living in tv market like Los Angeles we get following channels
Gettv
Movies tv
METV
Antenna TV
Bounce TV
Cozy TV
the Works
then later on this year we get three following channels
Buzz tv with deal with old game shows
Decades show old school CBS show from 1950 and beyond
Laff tv network
That only in Los Angeles market
It’s gotten harder without wiziwig.
And I subscribe to MLB, can watch games, listen to games online.

Nah, it's more complicated than that. Not to defend my cable (too much) but I get one local sports network that gives me 1 NHL team, 1 MLB team & 1 NBA team. Another local sports network gets me the other baseball team in my state.
If the NHL team & NBA team are playing at the same time, they put one of the games on an alternate channel.
Then, there are the NBA games on TNT & ESPN, NFL on ESPN, & MLB on ESPN, TBS & WGN.
When things are really cooking, I'm flipping all over the place watching multiple sports/teams.
I don't see how that's possible/practical without having my current cable (and I haven't even brought up college football or hoops, which don't interest me as much but I still watch a little).
You watch the NBA? Seriously?
Trust me, you are resisting change.
So did my step kids. When my wife told me what we pay for our internet, phone, and tv hookups, I gasped. I think more and more people are finding they can do just fine without the cable or satellite costs.
