The Racial Wealth Gap: Why A Typical White Household Has 16 Times The Wealth Of A Black One
Forbes ^ | 03/26/2015 | Laura Shin

The United States is becoming much more racially and ethnically diverse. At the same time, it’s becoming more unequal in terms of wealth and income. These two trends are combining in an uncomfortable way: the wealth and income divide is happening along racial and ethnic lines.

The typical black household now has just 6% of the wealth of the typical white household; the typical Latino household had just 8%, according to The Racial Wealth Gap: Why Policy Matters, by Demos, a public policy organization promoting democracy and equality, and the Institute on Assets and Social Policy.

In absolute terms, the median white household had $111,146 in wealth holdings in 2011, compared to $7,113 for the median black household and $8,348 for the median Latino household. (All figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau Survey of Income and Program Participation.)

This is what is called the racial wealth gap.

Everyone leaves out the most obvious reason of all.
White people can be fired and white males especially. You
can fire a white male for any reason at all and it’s no
problem. Blacks, latinoids and women have easy recourse
and access to organizations devoted to their rights in the
workplace but not whit males. So the best employee to have
is the one that actually has to compete and turn the best
prophet for the employer.

Yep, an update to the old schoolyard song:

“First comes learning, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage.”

I completely agree. LBJ deliberately set in motion a planned process to decimate the black family. Which has crippled the rest of the USA.

While Johnson remains the worse president ever, Obama is rapidly overtaking him.

Lots of ultra-rich people skew the stats who’s families have been amassing wealth long before black people were accepted in society. And some even before the USA existed. Sure, it doesn’t feel “fair” to people who weren’t born rich but your family could someday be just as wealthy.

I’ll bet if they compared the middle 50% households of each race, there wouldn’t be much difference and Asians would beat everyone.

Gee. Could that have anything to do with doing the right thing, for the right reason, at the right time?

Repeatedly?

And I'd add one more general piece of advice..”even if you follow all the advice that those who've attained financial comfort have given *do* expect your younger years to be years of hard work, long hours and self denial”.

1. Get an education.

2. Get married.

3. Have children.

I'd modify these a little:

1. Get an education, at least through high school

2. Get married and stay married

3. Have children with your wife and help raise those children.

4. Quit feeling sorry for yourself and playing the "I'm-a-victim" card.

5. Realize that the greatest free educational tool in this country is the military. Join and learn a skill that you can use after service.

Until there is evidence that blacks seriously want to work at solving their problems and clean up their own house from within, I think we should stop pouring federal dollars down this rat hole. Since the War on Poverty under Johnson, there have been trillions spent on blacks and they are worse off now than they were then. Enough's enough.

Yeppers. And when you factor in an illegitimacy rate over 75% you can and should expect a “wealth gap”.

diverse: of a different kind, form, character, etc.; unlike:

unequal: not equal; not of the same quantity, quality, value, rank, ability, etc.:

Yet “diverse” is considered good, and “unequal” is considered bad.

Legalize heroin and crack. Hell, let them pay for a business license to open up a street corner hot dog stand / drug dealer / baby food supplier for one stop shopping for all the single white, black, hispanic trash mothers.

Heck, declare Heroin, crack, crank, meth a Federally subsidized abortifacient, that will make sure states have no say in the matter.

Just pass an ordinance to not dispose of bodies in the public view. Na, Na, we’ll have somebody go around ringing a bell chanting “Bring out your dead”.

You got it.

Doesn’t make any difference how hard you work or how much you make.

If you spend everything you make on frivolous junk you will never have any real wealth.

Well come down here to TX and walk around the Black community here - two story houses, at least two new pickups, SUV’s etc. I’ve worked and saved all my life and live in an old house with a 10 year old car. They live much higher on the hog than I can.

I want to help at least on the education part. Right now I am writing a letter to the NAACP requesting a list of universities and community colleges that actively discriminate against black people so I can travel to them and actively picket them

Really?

I see it this way, then:

“Black households are 16 times more likely to suffer from a bankrupt intellect and moral poverty”.

Whiners, victims, etc.

Why in the hell would you want to constantly be seen as and want to be part of the victim class.

Eye of the Tiger.

Everyone loves a winner.

I notice the woman who wrote that article is Asian. So why doesn’t she show the average Asian household income? Does it not fit the narrative of her agenda?

I am still playing both sides of the fence though, I just got accepted into a University to finish up my AS for information tech online and if I feel up to it maybe a BA in something, for I did start college a while ago, might as well finish it, but I have the old school way of thinking, somethings college cannot teach, you have to learn in the field, though it is painful sometime.
