LOL! Yuppers. A couple of the local casinos are giving away tesla's and I find it laughable when I see them displayed with a prominent "Zero Emission" plate on the back. Yeah, well except for the construction of it. And it's not like it doesn't use any petroleum products for, oh say, lubricants, tires, plastic mouldings etc. Not to mention, where you gonna get it serviced? I'll bet it ain't gonna be cheap to get it serviced or, heaven forbid, repaired. Self serving "Look what I'm doing to save the erf." types are delusional.

Look in the comments section. Some leftist jackball was saying that all the coal plants are in republican states,
and that the new regs and carbon tax would finally force them to go to solar plants instead.

Notice the glee behind the idea of forcing political opponents to submit to leftist will.

I would be curious of how much coal is burned for each mile one of these cars drive, and how much CO2 is produced by the coal burned per mile driven.

It’s got to be way more than gasoline being burned directly inside the engine.

Anyone have an idea on these figures?

I’d get a Tesla if they had their free power stations where I live. But not to save the planet. It would save me tons of money in the long run. I commute 160 miles a day.

Did you know that two guys on two bikes produce more CO2 than two guys in one car?

Companies do the same trick with departmental budgets. If your department needs to cut their budget, remove expenses that go towards other departments and have the charges just come directly from that department, thus giving the effect that you cut your budget when really it just got passed off to someone else.

Electric car + solar is the future imho. Tesla Model 3 + Solarcity’s prices = cheap sustainable transport. Solarcity could sell electricity at same or lower cost than fossil fuel right now.

I’m in favor of this not because I think this will save the environment, but because the price has come down a lot

This is only news to Low Information Liberals. When 50% of electric power used to recharge batteries comes from burning something, that is a fact of life when it comes to the environmental burden of recharging an electric car.

I guess this is only news to the extent it shatters the myths that liberals think are truth simply because of their good wishes.

* I find it laughable when I see them displayed with a prominent “Zero Emission” plate on the back *

The truly laughable thing is that the driver may actual believe than man-made global warming/climate change/disruptification may actually be REAL!

For those that believe in the Socialist/Marxist “science” there is no possibility of Falsifiability. No fact can dissuade them from the rock solid “truth” that their ex-hippie Communist professor told them in school. The talking heads on TV news know much more than YOU know, because YOU are a Conservative. Politicians now more about science than anyone because they have a “D” after their names.

I bet you could sell them “Envir0-sustainable Turd-on-a-stick” for five easy payments of $15.95.

It's biodegradable!

In the US, about 39% of electricity is generated by coal, and it’s dropping quickly because of EPA mandates, and the low price of nat gas.

Tesla only exists because of the California and Northeast Compact...forcing each manufacturer to offer electric or hydrogen cars.

Tesla sells the credits to manufacturers who don’t manufacture their own. Without that income, they would be totally uneconomic as an org.

Ditto for windmills .. for every windmill there is still a need for fossil fuel plants to make up for all those times the wind isn’t blowing and there is still a demand for electricity.

An electric drag bike can run the 1/4 mile in 7 or 8 seconds and top out at 150mph on 6 cents worth of electricity. How much would the gas required to do that cost? It’s a matter of efficiencies.

Toyota admits that the production of its lightweight Prius requires more energy and emits more carbon dioxide than the production of its gas-only models [source: Williams]. The major reason is because hybrids like the Prius include more advanced components than a conventional car, including a second electric motor and heavy battery packs.

There’s a difference between a large-scale power plant which devotes vast resources to minimizing emissions which are then vented far from habitations, vs a 2-cubic-foot mobile internal combustion engine (times hundreds of thousands) which can only spare a handful of space to mitigating pollution which is otherwise dumped in close proximity to the general population.

Service & repair is available. Given that EVs are mechanically far simpler, there is little to do.
