I don't have any use for Islam, but it's a little far-fetched to see Muslim terrorism behind every act of lunacy in the world. By all accounts, this Lubitz guy had a history of clinical depression (he was institutionalized for treatment, and during his training in Phoenix, AZ, he as briefly barred from flying) and should never have been allowed into the cockpit of a commercial airline from the get-go.

The fact that groups like Al Quaeda and ISIS approve of what he did doesn't prove that Lubitz was motivated by Islamism or any other religious/political ideology. All it proves is that they're happy to see westerners die. If an asteroid hit an American or European city, they'd be happy about that too, that doesn't mean that the asteroid was working for ISIS.

As I said, the two most likely hypotheses when no information was available were Islamic terrorism or suicidal mental illness. I haven't seen any evidence that Lubitz was an Islamist. I've seen a lot of evidence about a history of severe mental illness. So until I see some convincing evidence for the former, I'm going to support the latter.

UPDATE:

Those pictures were from his ‘FANS’ facebook page, not HIS.

Although interesting, it really is not a confirmation that he was or was becoming a muslim.

I should have checked further before posting that screen grab.
