Germanwings pilot was locked out of cockpit before crash in France
New York Times ^ | 25 March | Nikola Clark

PARIS — As officials struggled Wednesday to explain why a jet with 150 people on board crashed in relatively clear skies, an investigator said evidence from a cockpit voice recorder indicated one pilot left the cockpit before the plane’s descent and was unable to get back in.

Sorry if I’m reaching, but you may be thinking about the Sewol ferry disaster. Many of the passengers’ relatives received last texts from their doomed loved ones.

You're right. Vatstats is a hack. It's a site devoted to flight simulator enthusiasts (VATSIM — the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation network). Mixed in with FlightAware, it looked real. Someone must have added the fictional pilot #1107082 with an interesting and incomplete itinerary.

And, presumably, a heart attack doesn’t immediately re-program the course of flight into a steep descent. A heart attack or a door switch in the wrong position are both low probability events; together they are extremely low probability. To be coupled with the steep descent verges on the mathematically impossible.

Since this was an older plane for short trips it likely didn’t have the micro-cell sites and Wi-Fi.

Older planes can be retrofitted with WiFi and have been. Someone just needs to look this flight up to see if it is available.

The pilot/copilot is the primary suspect from the beginning.

How do we know this?

The names were not released in the first day.

Other Germanwings flights were cancelled by pilots refusing to fly (word gets around the pilot community quickly)

We have not heard from the families of the pilots because they are being interrogated by authorities, computers searched, etc. (under lockdown)

This indicates there MAY have even been a suicide note/manifesto left with the family/friends.

The manually locked cockpit door (to prevent code over-ride) indicates an intentional, deliberate hijacking of the flight.

The co-pilot joined Germanwings in September 2013, directly after training, and had flown 630 hours.

So, less than 18 months into the job.

"If it was terrorism, I’m surprised he didn’t ditch it into a populated area.

The co-pilot needed to lock out the pilot at the first opportunity he was given. When nature's call caused the pilot to leave the cockpit, that was the opportunity the co-pilot needed. Flying the plane over to a populated city for the crash, would have added a layer of complexity. The co-pilot wanted to do it quick and simple.

The idea of a incident happening to incapacitate the co-pilot at just the time the pilot left the cockpit, seems to be a coincidence with high statistical odds. If they recover the body of the co-pilot, I hope they do an autopsy.

Yes, he could get back in. The outside pilot can always get back in, unless the inside pilot intentionally locks him out. It’s not like walking out the house door without your keys.

A prayer rug was found in the cockpit and the plane was flying east when it crashed but terrorism is not suspected.

German newspaper reported this.

The pilots named as Patrick S and Andreas L

privacy laws in Germany stop the release of the last name.

It should not be hard to figure out the last names given this information.

What would happen if passengers demand to know the religious affiliation of the pilots and crew? Then if any Muslims in the crew they can refuse to fly.

What if this was not a Muslim and just a suicide?

It is starting to look that way to me.

Based on a name? Richard Reid didn’t sound islamic either.

But demonic forces do use more than just islam to wreack havoc on this earth, so tunnel vision on these matters is never advisable.

I think you may be closest to correct.

We now know it’s a German guy, no question. Too bad for the jihadi terrorism alarmists.

Not to say he COULDN’T be Moslem, without apparent name change, but doubtful.

Maybe 1 of those German NAZIs?

Or maybe he is just one sicko who didn’t care how many people he took out while committing suicide.

There is the possibility he simply had an “event” that knocked him out, despite what bit we hear about “normal breathing”.

The cockpit door switch was deliberately set to lock out the other pilot, so his access code would not be able to open the door. It is set to “Norm” for the flight, for just that kind of scenario, where there is a medical emergency. I don’t know how he would manage to do that, if he were knocked out.

This was deliberate, whether an “act of terror”, or a pilot committing suicide- murder-suicide, with my guess that the authorities already possess some sort of suicide note or message.

Is the two-person cockpit rule only a FAA reg, or is it international as well?

He wants their evil acts looked at positively?

He wants Muslims to be looked at in a positive way and when they get caught in their terror, he wants that to be minimized. He can’t have it both ways.
