Exclusive: Saudi Arabia building up military near Yemen border - U.S. officials

(Reuters) - Saudi Arabia is moving heavy military equipment including artillery to areas near its border with Yemen, U.S. officials said on Tuesday, raising the risk that the Middle East’s top oil power will be drawn into the worsening Yemeni conflict.

The buildup follows a southward advance by Iranian-backed Houthi Shi'ite militants who took control of the capital Sanaa in September and seized the central city of Taiz at the weekend as they move closer to the new southern base of U.S.-supported President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

The slide toward war in Yemen has made the country a crucial front in Saudi Arabia's region-wide rivalry with Iran, which Riyadh accuses of sowing sectarian strife through its support for the Houthis.

The conflict risks spiraling into a proxy war with Shi'ite Iran backing the Houthis, whose leaders adhere to the Zaydi sect of Shi'ite Islam, and Saudi Arabia and the other regional Sunni Muslim monarchies backing Hadi.

Bring all of our military home. We are flush with oil. Let them kill each other over tribal friction that has gone on for centuries. Not our problem.

Saudi Arabia is a modern capable military - they've got almost 1/4-million men under arms and a heap of US hardware.
They don't want any of that Yemeni crap spilling over.

I know that we had plenty of Islamic terror before Obama, but I think one could easily argue that all of this major chaos is the direct fault of Obama’s policies since taking office.

If Obama was a Republican we would be hearing about it 24/7.

If I was the king, I’d move the southern border all the way to the south.

It happened on Obama’s watch, you know the Nobel Peace Prize President.

The amaturish regime with a amaturish John Kerry and the aftermath of Hillary’s disasters.

The Arab spring, tension between Israel and the US, Iran cheating treaty, concessions from the US to Iran, Yemmon on fire.

3 major conflicts to really ratched up into 3 major wars, the middle east, North Korea, Russia / Ukraine.

Oops, forgot, a war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, did I forget any more FUBARs ?

Ted Cruz was absolutely correct when he said “ The world is on Fire “ he was the first to coin that prase in the campaign season and the MSM will be forced it use it reluctantly.

I agree. He has aroused all these countries to a frenzy...making them venerable.

"Now the Saudi’s know how Israel feels..."

Their enemy's enemies are their enemies.

The Saudis got fancy hardware, yep. But if they were to face a well-equipped and motivated enemy, it’s unlikely that they’ll ultimately prevail in battery.
