It looks to me like that language was thrown in there to pacify the Muslims we needed to help defeat the Barbary pirates.

I agree. I think that was the same reason that G.W. Bush talked about Islam being a religion of peace after 9/11.

But I think that in terms of confronting Ungar's argument, the key points are:

1) The language he cites was superceded by the second treaty in 1805, which pointedly does not contain that language; and

2) The founders, including the "Deist" Jefferson, attended Christian services at the House of Representatives and the Supreme Court.

Yesterday, the Tea Party favorite chose a location to announce his quest for the presidency that has, so far as I can ascertain, never been chosen before in our nation’s history—a religious institution that, according to it’s own description, offers “a world-class Christian education” for the purpose of “training champions for Christ”.

Apparently the leftists are incapable of addressing the substance of Ted Cruz's message.

As the leftists did for Sarah Palin, they continue to do what Democrats do best: character assassination, name calling, the blame game, attempt to change the subject, etc.

Boring is defined as tedious and repetitious.

Of course if he announced at a homosexual parade that would be for all the people. No Forbes he is just for people who like or love America.

Pray America is waking

In 2006 the left was able to get up to 1 million illegals marching in the streets of multiple cities.

The left can get every city in this country burning at the snap of the fingers.

What a dumb article. Has he written one about Obama’s abuse of race?

Somewhere along the way, I picked up the notion that when someone announces their candidacy for the Office of President of the United States, they are announcing their intent and desire to be the president of all Americans, irrespective of race, religion or other considerations.

Talk about naive.

Any more crap like this from Forbes and I cancel my subscription!

I think I’ll cancel it anyway. Each issue is filled with articles about rich bankers.

I think the White House already has plans along those lines. It's been suggested several times in various lefty outlets that Obama should have another term and there were some plans afoot early in his first term to change or rescind the constitutional provision for presidential term limits. But nothing ever happened and any effort to do so now would be soundly defeated.

So the tactic now is to instigate some catastrophic event in order to allow Obama and his handlers to hold on to the presidency. I'm fully convinced that between now and 2016, this will be attempted. The question is what form will this crisis take? They may be trying for several crises at once or a series of crises. Why else is the White House do involved in Ferguson and the other shootings? They are trying to start a civil war. Why the sudden interest in negotiating with Iran? To allow Iran to further develop their nuclear arsenal and maybe aim one of their bombs at the US. And there is the cutting of ties with Israel in order to ally this country with its enemies to use them to destroy the US.

The plans were made a long time ago. It's just that now those plans are being accelerated. This is going on no matter who the Republicans put up as candidates.

In case I do need it, any link on the 1805?

The reference to it is in the boldfaced quote from the Wikipedia article excerpted in my original post #28, to wit:

A second treaty, the Treaty of Peace and Amity signed on July 4, 1805, superseded the 1796 treaty. The 1805 treaty did not contain the phrase "not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."

Here is the link to the whole Wikipedia article about the Treaty of Tripoli: Treaty of Tripoli.

Here is an article about the 1805 Treaty of Peace and Amity from the Yale Law School website: http://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/bar1805t.asp

Well, he actually was planning to use the usual place where such things are announced, but Bill Ayers living room was booked for that time slot.

This isn’t something new from Obama.

In 1996 with the possibility of B Clinton loosing power, the Clinton’s and the left were ginning up civil unrest with blacks (black churches burning as an example) and the Chinese military was arming up the gangs in LA with full auto weapons.

I didn’t know it was against the law to announce a campaign for president at Liberty University. I wonder what would happen to Liberals heads if he announced it at Hillsdale.
