We never executed Goering. He was able to commit suicide in his jail cell in Nuremburg by swallowing a cyanide capsule after his death sentence was announced but before he could be led to the gallows.

Airbus-aircraft-falling-from-altitude mishaps

Kind of like that small rash of 737s that would turn upside down and dive in from altitude. It appears that Boeing figured out what was going on and quietly fixed that problem, with the government and airlines joining in the coverup.

To take over the controls on an Airbus, one must overcome or "fool" the computer in order to get it to respond to inputs outside of the control laws.

That's scary. If I was the pilot I'd make sure air traffic controllers heard alot of expletives coming from me if that was happening.

I'm thinking what would Scotty do?

All valid questions that must be looked into and answered.

Unfortunately, none of us was in that cockpit nor on the ground to witness the event. What we know today is only what we have read or heard from the media.

I have investigated literally hundreds of aviation mishaps. I only know three facts right now with any certainty:

1. The airplane took off and proceeded on it's normal planned route of flight.

2. The airplane crashed into the mountains.

3. The media lies, embellishes, and generally gets it wrong even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. They are never to be trusted to present unbiased information or analysis in a technical investigation.

So basically none of us know anything - yet. But it is instructive (and illustrative) to engage in some small amount of speculation. But we need to remember it is only that - speculation.

what does that clue imply? Someone left a wrench in the nose gear compartment or punched a hole in the fuselage that cause a leak?

That's always my first thought. "Who was the last one to work on it". I have little experience with aircraft but a lifetime of experience with every kind of rolling stock.

Surely you know how many A320 are in service, to make such a silly statement.

Scotty: “I say it’s old, Mr. La Forge. It can’t handle the interface of your power converter. This equipment was designed for a different era. Now it’s just a piece of junk. “

Goering wasn’t executed. He committed suicide via a concealed cyanide capsule.

You have a point. Every media print & TV has given the breakdown of passengers on-board the ill fated “German Wings” A320 aircraft, with one large exception. No one has reported widely that there were thirty-nine (39) Turkish passengers on the aircraft, most of whom work in Spain and live in Germany. Something is quite fishy when the main stream medai makes such an obvious silence!!! not saying “Terrorism”....but certainly food for thought and investigation!!!

Two things hit you right in the face: First the operating crew made no voice communication or input to the automatic reporting system, while in descent, which requires just an entry/reason code (numbers), & second, not one passenger in eight minutes attempted to make a cell phone call to family or friends...or the authorities!!! Very strange!!!

I guess you also have to very careful flying these days. Seeing that every airline in the US has mixed fleets (those evil airlines, buying crap airplanes not made in WA). Your B737, is easily swapped out for a A320.

You can’t even fly on the express partners either, because they don’t fly Boeings. Bombardier and Embraer have that market sewed up.

Has anyone heard the pilots’ names yet? Seen their pictures?

Airbus myth promoted by Boeing, and picked up by Luddites all over. The pilots can always override the computers in an Airbus, and the B787 is the most automated aircraft ever made.

You are mostly right. But when you put yourself into some position, and you got six precious minutes of life going on and descending 3,000 feet a minute...typically...a guy would do “something”. Six minutes is an awful long time in this type of situation. If the radar positions are correct...auto-pilot was on for the whole six minute period because of the steady decline (never faster, never slower). What pilot leaves the auto-pilot on and accepts a descent as acceptable without warning the control tower of his plan? Either he is unconscious or he’s out of the picture. Once they took off....it was on auto-pilot, and I’m willing to bet you that when they finally hook up the data...it was still on auto-pilot when it crashed.

Scotty would do nothing. Kirk would argue the computer into self destruction by bombarding it with illogical passion.

P.S. If it was Scotty swearing, you would need to translate it from Scots Gaelic.

It sure sounds like cabin depressurization incapacitated the crew, and hopefully the passenger too.

If depressurization incapacitated the crew, wouldn't the plane just keep on flying at 38,000 feet?

The crew apparently had the wherewithal to set the jet for a controlled descent which indicates that the crew had oxygen at least initially.

That seems more sensible to me, rather than letting an eyeless, earless circuit board decide the actions and fate of a multi-million dollar aircraft and all the souls on board.

My leading theory as well - if true the FDR will indicate the cabin pressure as well as the warning (usually triggers between 10-14K ft)
