A message to Putin: Hundreds of Poles mob convoy of U.S. troops driving through eastern Europe
Daily Mail ^ | 24 March 2015 | Jennifer Newton for MailOnline

"Hundreds of Polish residents took to the streets to give a hero's welcome to a convoy of U.S. troops who are driving through eastern Europe and deliver a damning message to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Children climbed on to Stryker armoured vehicles and even offered souvenirs to the troops, who stopped to pose for pictures in the main square of the eastern Polish town of Bialystok.

Meanwhile other residents lined the roads and applauded as the troops from the 3rd Squadron of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment of the American Army passed by."

"The scenes mirrored those in France after Paris was liberated at the end of the Second World War when crowds of French citizens lined the streets to greet the American soldiers after German troops were forced from the region.

The soldiers have recently been taking part in the Atlantic Resolve exercise, which was intended to demonstrate NATO's readiness to defend its members."

RT says it like it is. And is the source for the truth for our Putinistas.

The Partitions of Poland began in 1772. In 1795, Poland completely disappeared, most of its land having been taken by Russia.

Poland regained independence after WWII, but the Soviet Union invaded and had to be defeated to assure independence.

As you know, Poland again lost its independence when Germany and Russia invaded in 1939.

After the War, under occupation of the Red Army, the Soviets insured Poland would be governed by a puppet government.

Poland only regained true independence after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Poland's fears are genuine. It has been Russian policy for centuries to dominate Poland as a buffer against Germany.

A Russian invasion or incursion into Poland will have a very different result than the one we are witnessing in Ukraine.

Love Polish people but there is no doubt that at this moment in history they are in a VERY precarious place between Putin and Obama.

I think a shooting fight is coming soon and it’s not likely any Americans will be there to help them.

‘Twas the Poles, I believe, who provided Turing with the first set of hints on the operation of the Nazi enigma machine.

The Poles were the first to capture an enigma machine, and it was smuggled to Britain. It was obvious how it worked, it was just that it had so many possible permutations, changed daily, that it was nearly impossible to crack before Turing came along and automated the process.

Different countries, different reactions.

In the Czech Republic, the government had to warn Anti-US protestors that throwing rotten fuit and eggs at the American APC’s could land them in jail.

Poland has always had to fight to even exist, which gives then a bit of a different viewpoint on things.

Being on “The Highway of Europe”, smack in the middle of East-West, they have had to be at war more than they have been at peace, for over a thousand years.

After WW1, they had to fight the short Polish-German War, the incredibly bloody Polish Civil Wars, and the Polish-Soviet War to secure Independence.

The violent coups of the 20’s, and the short war against the Czechs in 1938 did nothing to help them prepare for what was coming in WW2.

Then the Soviet repressions of the 40’s-50’s, etc.

It can easily be said that, excluding the Fall of the Soviet Union period, that Poland has been in it’s most peaceful 50 years of it’s existence.

come to Poland -- we have quite a few nice historical cities (Gdansk, Torun, Kraków), a phoenix city - Warsaw - with wonderful museums and parks, great hiking trails in the south (Bieszczady, Beskids) and a spectacular wild forest in the east (Białowieża)

Excellent.

The suffering of the Poles in the last century was incalculable.

I wish I could believe that they could count on us now.
