They’re comfortable, doing very well for themselves - and their big concern is that Jews in Israel or elsewhere who assert themselves as Jews and don’t try to “blend in” will upset the apple cart and provoke anti-Semitism, making life difficult for these well-to-do left-wing Jews.
This attitude doesn’t exist only with American Jews. It was particularly prevalent with rich German Jews, who regarded the impoverished Jews of Eastern Europe as dirt and wanted absolutely nothing to do with them.
In New York City, you can see it on display on the part of wealthy Jews from the upper East and West sides, who have contempt for the Jews who immigrated here from Eastern Europe, lived on the lower East side, and then moved to Brooklyn and Queens.
It is important for all Conservatives to spend time learning from our Jewish friends.
It takes years to build a trust level where they are open with non-Jews.
