The ‘John Wayne Moment’ We’re In: This is where Ted Cruz comes in.
The American Spectator ^ | March 24, 2015 | William Murchison

Posted on 03/24/2015 3:29:12 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Cinematically, as well as politically, we are sort of in a John Wayne moment: which is where Ted Cruz comes in.

Things in this town of ours ain’t a-going real good right now. Everything, in fact, seems to be falling apart, save in the eyes of folk who wish America would either drop into the sea or fall in line with President Obama’s preachments and prescriptions.

Wait! A sudden thunder of hooves in the distance! A shout! A shot! It’s… It’s… Ted Cruz, declaring his candidacy for the U.S. presidency.

I do not want to be understood as mocking a serious candidate at an undoubtedly serious moment in national affairs. The point is: Would he be volunteering to save us if the feeling weren’t so widespread that we need saving, and fast?

Cruz’s emergence as a rootin’-tootin’ presidential candidate — almost in the sagebrush-saga mold — indicates just how lousy things have gotten: divisions over police shootings, anger over presidential executive orders, fears over larger if less competent government, anxiety over breakdowns in schooling and family structure. The day of Cruz’s announcement, the New York Times’ lead story proclaimed: “Out of Yemen, U.S. Is Hobbled in Terror Fight/Advisers Are Evacuated/Militants in Region Are Seen as Major Threat to Americans.”

We haven’t glimpsed so much fed-upness and woe in America since the late ’70s, when inflation, the energy crisis, and the Iran hostage crisis came near to causing national psychological breakdown. We yearned for John Wayne, or someone, to come boiling over the hill — bugles blowing “Charge” — and sort things out once and for all. By no coincidence, perhaps, the voters hired a pal of Big John’s, Ronald Reagan, who proceeded, with growing cooperation on Congress’s part, to restore American prosperity and thwart the Soviet threat....

He’s a institutionalize. Always has been and he has proven to be so

Of course he’s a good candidate for any time

The job of being the president is defending and protecting the constitution

I just cancelled two DVR series today. People blathering on nonsensically complaining about Cruz’s qualities they don’t like. Just idiotic. I have better things to do with my time then listen to people whining about a man who wants to save our kids from a growing 18 trillion dollar debt, and has a track record of believability on it

They are immediate has berms.

Cruz appeals to the people he is bypassing the media and leaving them in the past

If Rush were against Cruz yesterday, instead of praising his intent, which he was, I’d have written even him off

The five. Imus. Red eye. All the late nights Conan How will they come back from their mockery of this man who just wants to get in and defend the constitution? Especially in a time when we are in such dire need

Has berms. In one day they are done.

I don’t invest in the idea that a poltical savior exists. Cults of personality always fail.

Ideology is the only thing that can turn this country around.

I like Cruz, but he can’t do much by himself.

That is what is needed in this country. Some one who has the “BALLS” to tell the American people that their government is becoming “DICTATORIAL”. And the American people has the choice whether they wish to live as slaves or free. HERE’S A CHOICE, PEOPLE”. Do you want a government to tell what you can or cannot do, or suffer the consequences or do you want to live free to live your life as you see fit?

Cruz’ ideology is the Constitution.

Cruz is a fantastic teacher and messenger of that particular ideology.

Was watching The Five last night, they were lukewarm on Cruz. I shut off my TV. Don’t need it from our side.

Character is going to matter as much as the issues in 2016.

Obama’s character has now been exposed. He is excruciatingly self-centered, cold, untruthful, vindictive, petty, and devious about who he really is and what he believes. Most importantly, with Obama, politics trumps everything else.

Don’t be surprised if Ted Cruz exceeds everyone’s expectations of him, because he comes across as none of these things.

They are talking themselves into irrelevancy.

We watch them because we want to see a hint of someone addressing the huge issues facing our country. Simone shows up with answers and they attack him with illogical statements

I cancelled them on DVR.

They are done

Cruz will be the one to watch for answers. They’ll be babbling

Why is it that only the “nuanced” can apply... I am quite sick and tired of the “well studied”, “nuanced” and “critical thinker” types being the only choices we are allowed to have, i.e., Jeb Bush... blechhh...

Yeah. If we really wanted "nuanced" we would all support Marie Harf. </s
