Hillary Clinton on Monday called for action to address inequality in Americas cities as she made what is expected to be one of her last public appearances before launching a presidential bid.
"A lot of our cities truly are divided, they have a lot of inequality which has only gotten worse," she said Monday during a roundtable at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank.
"They have some of the most dynamic, well-educated, affluent people in the world, and people who are trapped in generational poverty, and whose skills are not keeping up with what the jobs of today and tomorrow demand."
"Unless we pay attention and come up with some very creative and, I would argue, effective solutions based on our past practices, we will not see our cities doing what cities do best."
Her likely bid for the presidency served as the subtext to the speech. She praised Compton, Calif. Mayor Aja Brown (D) for her work on curbing gang violence and appeared to allude to the beginning of her campaign.
"Don't be surprised if you get a call," Clinton told Brown, as she and the attendees began to laugh.
"Maybe well start not too far from here in a beautiful domed building, try to get everybody in the same room and start that conversation that could lead to collaboration and better results for our cities and our country."
Her appearance Monday coincided with the official launch of the 2016 campaign, as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) announced his candidacy in a speech at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Clinton is expected to enter the presidential race soon. She's made a number of staff hirings over the past few weeks, including the addition of press aides and staffers in key states.
A gap on Clinton's schedule in April is adding to the speculation that she's nearing a decision to run for president. After Monday's appearance at the Center for American Progress and Monday night's speech marking the Robin Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting, she has no public speeches scheduled in April.
Neera Tanden, the president of the Center for American Progress, moderated the event. She served as Clinton's policy director during Clinton's presidential bid in 2008, as well as her legislative director while she served in the Senate. She also worked on Clinton's 2000 Senate bid, as well as in President Clinton's White House.
Clinton has regularly worked with Tanden and the Center, speaking at its anniversary celebration in late 2013. Donors were initially promised a meeting with Clinton in exchange for a $250,000 donation, but a spokeswoman told The Hill that year that the meeting never happened.
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro also appeared on the panel. Many Democrats view Castro, the young former San Antonio Mayor, as a rising star within the party, and he is widely seen as a possible vice presidential pick for Clinton.
Tell us about your whoring for the Clinton Foundation, Hillary.
What?! Hillary is still running?! HAHAHAHAHA!
LOL! Uh, I’d say my income equality between us is rather LARGE! Basically, if you cain’t walk the walk because your pants suit is too overloaded with cash, then STFU! I really don’t care for these assclowns.
one of her last public appearances
Her last one can’t come soon enough.
MILIONAIRE PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL DEMANDS OTHERS GIVE MORE FREE STUFF TO MOOCHERS!
It's the VAGINA EXPRESS.. Get on board, ladies!!
Hillary's tactics are as transparent as can be. Playing to women's EMOTIONS just as Obama did. 8 years of Obama SO WHY IS THERE STILL "INCOME INEQUALITY"? I thought Obama could fix EVERYTHING!!!
When Hillary talks of these issues, I hope the GOP and conservatives will discuss that she is a good Democrat, and that Obama is a good Democrat. And then lead to a discussion of what has a Democrat president done about these alleged problems all these years? Would be good to ask Hillary why is this a problem now but wasn’t a problem addressed by Obama and congressional Democrats all these years.
And let’s ask Hillary what she and her husband did about these issues when they were president before. What would be different this time? The problems in our cities are the same now as they were when the Clintons were in office before. Will anyone ask Hillary these sorts of questions???
Yeah, that's the ticket witch, bring more attention to the Clinton Foundation, LOLOL!!
Put her next to Cruz and it’s just a sad day in DemTown, and they know it.
Watch for the lefty media to put the screw job on Hill even harder in the next few weeks.
When these anti-poverty hustlers stop living like billionaires themselves maybe they would have some credibility.
What a joke she is.
.
It just blows me away that this is a issue the left wins with. How she is still using this??
Next she will give coloring books to democrat voters.
Hillary is so 90’s ,yawn ,LOL
>>It’s the VAGINA EXPRESS.. Get on board, ladies!!<<
When I was in college that might have worked.. maybe they will try to “pull” that?
THIS
Income inequality has only gotten even WORSE over the last 6 years... If they are going to run on this issue, we can point back and say "your messiah has only made it WORSE, we can't have of THAT!"... and then lower our heads while they call us racists and sexists...
