It’s like Rush sang in “Free Will”, “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”

This time is different (2016). We have good candidates. They have no one. Plus no black candidate.

To force people to vote goes directly against America’s founding principle of freedom.

To force people to buy a product -- ANY PRODUCT -- including healthcare goes directly against America's founding principle of freedom.

That didn't stop the narcissist in chief from ramming Obamacare down everyone's throats now did it?

Wouldn't this be a poll tax, only charging people who didn't vote? Isn't the right to vote also the right not to vote? Wouldn't it amount to forced registration of people at a stated address every few years?

What a constitutional scholar!

Most communist governments have had mandatory voting. The country with the most public and touted mandatory voting requirement recently was Iraq under Saddam.

We, here, all know this would lead to a permanent one party nation. Obama has brought in millions of illegals and they will vote for those who 'give them stuff'. Can Obama impose another mandatory law on the citizens, and demand a fee (TAX) if they don't comply? Sounds similar to Obama-care!

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” ― Winston S. Churchill

Barack Obama; "we are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America."

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” Benjamin Franklin

Mandatory voting is the first step on a slippery slope towards automatic voting, where if you fail to vote, the Government will vote for you based on your demographic and economic profile.
Democrats would love a system where you just register and the party votes for you.

Maybe; they did fine with no one in 2008 and a total failure in 2012. As soon as our field of candidates thins expect a 24 hour media blitz against the remaining candidates that won’t let up until the election.

when a person abstains from voting they ARE casting a vote- a vote of no confidence, or ‘present’ but not participating- We should have the RIGHT to support or not support by voting or abstaining- yet this president wants to take away even that basic RIGHT- Hell, why not? He’s taken away our RIGHT to be left alone and NOT being forced to buy something with his mandatory HC law

The democrats wouldn’t have to sneak around bussing homeless people to the polls. They could do it openly. They could send busses into the slums and promise extra food stamps if the people pull the correct lever. All illegals would be voting.

This could backfire, many people who do not vote do not do so for religious reasons. I have a neighbor who is a Jehovah's Witness, and regards voting as a mortal sin. I think she almost would prefer to be shot by Obama’s minions than go to the polls. She is not a well educated woman and her sympathies lie with obama and the democrats, but if she were forced to vote, and it was the democrats forcing her to do it, I am quite sure she would not vote for the democrats. I also think that not voting is the moral thing to do, if for whatever reason you have not been able to inform yourself about the candidates or the issues. What I think is immoral is to cast a vote not having any idea what you are actually doing.

FREEDOM! LIBERTY! JUSTICE for ALL! Are placards that should show up being held by conservatives at any and all pot-ass public appearances. Liberals hate freedom, they hate liberty and justice is a misused and misunderstood concept to them meaning everything should be there way or else...

I almost wouldn’t mind mandatory voting if we had mandatory constitutionalism. The purpose of voting is to choose the people who will create and administer laws that observe the constitution. With limited government it matters much less who’s in charge.
