The only legitimate argument that Russia has is that a defensive missile system will make it easier to launch an attack. That argument has been going around for years.

A defensive missile system cannot protect cities from nuclear attack, since it cannot be 100% effective. Some of the attack will get through.

But that was never the real purpose. The real purpose is to ensure that, in a surprise first strike against OUR nuclear capabilities, enough will survive to destroy the attacker.
