New federal grants will help 10 states test programs to help food stamp recipients find jobs, from using career coaches to quicker training courses to mental health assistance.
The grants, announced Friday in Georgia by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, come as the Republican Congress is exploring ways to cut the program, which cost $74 billion last year—twice its cost in 2008.
Some in the GOP have proposed stricter work requirements as a way to do that. But the Obama administration sees better worker training as an alternative to cuts or stricter work requirements.

Job training and other “assistance” programs only work when the individuals want to work and accept responsibility. Here goes another movement toward Communism and a waste of tax dollars, though I need not tell you that.
The problem is too many people getting food stamps. There's no need for programs or classes or anything.
If the gov tells them to report for work, gives them a time and location, a certain percentage (who are gaming the system) won't. Take those that don't off food stamps. Put those that show up to community clean up work or whatever for free in exchange for their food stamps. Repeat next day. Another percentage won't show up.
Those that keep showing up, have job fairs to get them employed, now that they have a good work record.
Problem solved.

The correct title to the article should be “States to test new ways to waste the taxpayer’s money to send food stamp recipients to work”.
Hey! It’s attitude and pride that make people actually work so that they are not leeches upon society.
You can’t teach attitude and pride! That’s something that is instilled into you by your parents in the early years of your life. Welfare leeches have no idea what that is.
This is simply another waste of the taxpayer’s money so that another government program can be justified and funded.

Problem with this is you and I will be the ones pulling the weeds and harvesting the cabbage as the “gibsmedats” sit on their fat asses and eat the cabbage and smoke the weed.

No surprise to find out, it was "free handouts" day for school supplies and such.

My kid had a pricey apt. in Boston. When they moved out, a social worker and a translator were there for an illegal (with an Obamaphone) ready to take the apt. gratis the taxpayer. Made me sick.
Step 2: Keep repeating step 1 as long as necessary.
Sounds like a good plan. 40 hours of this per week gets you 100% of your welfare payments. Each hour less than 40 cuts the payments by 1/40.
At least the solution will match the intended reason they got them on the food stamps in the first place.

The family of the Boston Marathon Bombers was getting over $100,000 a year in benefits, including housing, food stamps, Obamaphones,unemployment, welfare, and college tuition.
The mother still felt the need to shoplift over $1000 dollars worth of goods from Saks 5th Avenue or one of those upscale stores. You know she lifted more than that but only got caught once.
The family came here seeking asylum, claiming their lives were in danger back home but then they flew back frequently to visit.
My boss calls in sick alot. I tell her half the battle is won just showing up.
I say they should work like a prison road gang. Don’t chain them up - if they leave they get no govt assistance and are ineligible to apply again for a period of time. If they want the aid, then they put in 8 hours a day, 5 days a week hard labor.

Had neighbors years ago. Dad and son seemed pretty proud when boy turned 18 and could sign up for his own benefits. Rite of passage for them, I guess.

We have a Mexican grocery store on the beach (!) in Capitola, CA near all the million dollar homes that advertises EBT in Spanish.
Add that to the accomplishment: foreign illiterates being subsidized to live in resort areas.
