Remember also that Congress only has oversight authority - they have no ability to pursue any criminal charges, that’s an executive branch job.

This can provide help for cases already in the regular courts where there are real consequences for perjury and obstruction

With all respect. Not true. The congress can vote to hold in contempt. If they choose to enforce contempt charges, they can order the capital police to make an arrest.
