The democrats of the 1960’s would be appalled at what has become of their party. Sometimes, for giggles and laughs, google Scoop Jackson, John Daly (the guy that the Chicago mayor in the 1960’s), Frank Church, and of course, George Wallace.
When the SDS and other young radicals (read: “commies”) were trying to decide which political party to infiltrate and take over in the 1960’s to bring about communism in the US, they concluded that the democratic party, with its broad support among the labor unions, offered fewer obstacles to being co-opted than the GOP.
