San Francisco Saint Mary’s Cathedral Drenches Homeless With Water To Keep Them Away

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — KCBS has learned that Saint Mary’s Cathedral, the principal church of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, has installed a watering system to keep the homeless from sleeping in the cathedral’s doorways.

The cathedral, at Geary and Gough, is the home church of the Archbishop. There are four tall side doors, with sheltered alcoves, that attract homeless people at night.

“They actually have signs in there that say, ‘No Trespassing,’” said a homeless man named Robert.

But there are no signs warning the homeless about what happens in these doorways, at various times, all through the night. Water pours from a hole in the ceiling, about 30 feet above, drenching the alcove and anyone in it.

The shower ran for about 75 seconds, every 30 to 60 minutes while we were there, starting before sunset, simultaneously in all four doorways. KCBS witnessed it soak homeless people, and their belongings.

I Love It!

One might think this would work - that the bums would leave. But Noooo.

"Some of the homeless bring waterproof gear, even an umbrella, to try to stay dry. Frustrated cathedral employees tell us they don’t have the staff to police the doorways, which are used by churchgoers during services."

It would probably work even better if they added soap to the water.

Its inhuman to deny a meth addict a public place to urinate.

Leftist logic.

They are seriously doing this in the midst of the 100-year drought?

That’s what they should have done in Ferguson.

Nothin harsh, just a fine mist wafting over the “protesters” in the subzero air.

No $#!+, Sherlock. So why don't you obey the sign?

Aren’t businesses required to hose down the sidewalk where vagrants urinate on the property?

And here I thought that these are the very people that Jesus would want the church to help.

The homeless aren’t looking to come into the church (or homeless center) for shelter. They want to squat and live by their own rules, not yours, or the church’s, or society.

These people (actually all of us) are.

They aren’t looking for help.

Weird story.

Surprising some guy curled up on a winter night, and wetting his clothes and bedding when he has to face the elements without any warning, is bad enough, but for a church to illegally run new plumbing to accomplish it, and during this drought?

Maybe it’s “used” water.

In any event - worth it.

You thought the church was here to help? How would they afford all those fancy hats and vestmants if they did that.Or the payoffs for all the child molestations and gay priests?

Read the article. The Church HAS helped them. And continues to do so.

But they do. The Archdiocese of San Francisco (and other SF Catholic groups) supports overnight shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, and substance abuse recovery programs.

They just don't want people defecating and urinating in their entryways. If they were camping out and pissing on your front door, you'd find it unacceptable, I think.

The water solution does seem awfully unpleasant, but what else are they going to do? Frogmarch them into vans and take them forcibly to the shelters?

Gate off the alcoves, I guess?
