I am looking into getting Roku or Tivo.
Sadly I am so technology challenged, I am having a really hard time figuring out how everything “fits” together.
Do you know of a site that explains all of this mish mash to a “challenged” person?
Heck...I may just go back to an old fashioned antenna and be done with it.
Roku is terrific. Incredibly easy to set up and use, and you get hundreds of free channels, many of them really terrific (for news junkies, for example, they have a channel that streams the daily half-hour newscasts from a boatload of cities. Very interesting to watch). I Heart Radio is also free, so you get radio from all over the country, as well. And Youtube has just been added to the free lineup with its bazillion videos. If you want pay channels like Netflix, you just add them from the on-screen “channel store.” And considering Roku is a one-time $40 purchase (sometimes less if you buy it reconditioned on Amazon), I can’t think of a better value. You have to have wi-fi, of course.
Basically you plug the Roku unit in, power cord to an outlet, HDMI cable to the TV and you are in business. The Roku will automatically recognize your wireless internet connection and prompt you for the password, which you only enter once.
If you don't have wireless internet, just plug the internet cable into the Roku.
Just get a digital antenna and stream what you really want to watch for free on your computer. You can actually hook your computer up to your tv with a digital adapter and an hdmi cable. Its really simple.
I have a digital adapter for my laptop and another one for my ipad and there are free streaming sites everywhere. I don’t pay for anything.
