Congressional Republicans may be singularly focused on unraveling President Obamas executive orders and actions, but when it comes to what is left of his viable policy agenda on Capitol Hill, Mr. Obamas biggest problems are now often with Democrats.
The administrations most pressing goal, expansive trade legislation, is adamantly opposed by scores of Democrats in the House and Senate even as most Republicans support it. Mr. Obamas formal request for congressional authorization to fight the Islamic State is deeply imperiled, in no small measure because Senate Democrats find it wanting.
The presidents dismissal of the role of Congress in approving any nuclear agreement with Iran was facing a potential veto override before Republicans scrambled the political dynamic by sending a letter directly to the Iranian leadership. But if international negotiators reach an accord this month, Democrats concerns are all but certain to roar back.
Efforts to change a national security program that sweeps up Americans phone call data and other records have also stalled over disagreements with Democrats, even though both parties seek changes to the program.
Democrats may be unified on most of the policies that Mr. Obama called middle-class economics in his State of the Union address which he has little chance of advancing with Republicans in control of Congress but these other potential achievements may be imperiled.
Over all, on economic issues, we pretty much walk in lock step, said Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, the third-ranking Senate Democrat. But for issues on which Mr. Obama lacks a consensus with congressional Democrats, he needs an amalgam, Mr. Schumer said.

Senate Leader Harry Reid will push the agenda items through.
Who wrote this trash? Are they purposely making nonsensical points to confuse people.
He is just way to apt to try to freeze everybody else out and hoard the whole process to himself. From the earliest days of this administration this has been the number one problem with this guy.
I don’t know about you, but I’m done with “we have to pass it to find out what’s in it”.
They buried the main point in the middle and placed wildly inaccurate spin in the beginning paragraphs.
===>> Democrats Are Going Their Own Way, and Thats Away From Obama <<===
Six years too late.
They have blood on their hands.
Let them go to hell for the damage and misery they have brought to America and Americans.
Bumper sticker:
FIRE THE OBAMACRATS!
This article is BS. Show me a veto override and I’ll believe it. For now Democrats walk in lockstep with their Leader.
No they’re not, they’re tied to him at the hip.
I like it! Maybe I’ll use this to make a homemade bumpersticker.
I think this issue touches on the administration’s power hoarding non-transparent ways, and that brings up the prospect of left and right populists calling a truce long enough to seriously upset DCs apple cart. I think that’s what they are afraid of.
“Congressional Republicans may be singularly focused on unraveling President Obamas executive orders and actions”.
Stopped reading right there. Article is complete BS.
Oh sure..now they move away...now that 6+ years of damage is done. They are ready for Hillary...and to save their own pathetic hides. Thanks a pantload, every last one of those scum.
The NYT writer Jennifer Steinhauer is into the controlled substances if she thinks the Congressional Republicans are rolling back Obamaâs illegal executive orders. The two morons, Boehner and McConnell have been absolutely worthless in this fight, though they have majorities. If Donkeys are becoming disgusted with Obamaâs antics, why aren’t they joining with the Republicans to form a vetoproof coalition? Not with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as minority leaders. There simply aren’t disaffected Donleys. Plus there’s the example of Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) for politicians in the Donkey Party to consider before disagreeing with the White House. Obama will turn his powers on you if you don’t do as your told. Congress has ceded their powers to a power hungry, insatiable, and uncontrolled Executive Branch.
Get back with me on this after the Lynch vote...
President was heard to say recently “ Hey Harry, come look at this”
Damn!!
Vice President Biden was heard to say recently Hey Harry, come look at this
