A relative gave me the necessary paperwork, I handed that off to my daughter. Not sure where she is with it. We already had copies of all the documentation except for our own birth certificates. It is not big deal to me, but I am proud to have ancestors who were born in TX during the Republic.

My family were early settlers in this county. It was formed in 1885, ancestors arrived here in 1889. We still own some of the original purchase of land. We still operate the farms.

I was away for 25 years, but it is still home.

Our family history says they arrived in 1828’ not sure if that is true. They came into east Texas with a group led by John Bevins. A son of the original family broke off from Bevins group and joined up with Stephen Austin. He had a land grant in his name in Austins section but after a few years he abandoned it and went back with his parents in east Texas.

Years ago in about 1950 when I was just a child, I was taken to the original land grant and I got to see the log house that my ancestors built. I can't even tell you exactly where it was ...........but I wish I owned it. sigh))))))))
