They made a splash among the set that whirled around Frida Kahlo and her husband Rivera, and the APRA ideas began to seep in. You can see it in Rivera murals in which he paints Caucasians in a loathesome greenish-gray (called glaukos or chloros by the ancient Greeks, who distinguished it from plain white, leukos) and furthermore adds, especially when painting Americans, little syphilis chancres on their faces and lips, like the marks and lesions ancient lepers bore.
