Physical security of the Clinton e-mail sever
And Still I Persist… ^ | March 10, 2015 | Bruce F. Webster

Posted on 03/10/2015 9:00:22 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I’ve raised in prior posts (here and here) the issue of physical security of the clintonemail.com e-mal server, which is why were it was located and how it was set up matters. Last night, Mitch LaKind — who has experience setting up secure military e-mail servers — wrote me about the detailed issues surrounding Clinton’s approach. I’ll let him speak for himself (emphasis mine, though):

As a former contractor to the Air Force, I personally managed the Microsoft Exchange servers that were installed at Thule Air Base. My experience with Microsoft Exchange goes back to 1997, when the earliest versions were just being introduced. . . . So, I have a bit of knowledge myself when it comes to email.

Anyway, the point I wanted to make, and perhaps if you feel that it is noteworthy you can share my info to those that can get it out into the public eye, is about the Network that the email server was running on.

The US gov’t, and more specifically the DoD and State Department run the NIPRNet (non-classified Network) and SIPRNet (classified Network up to SECRET). Having a server, regardless of location would have to be on a network that met the rating for which classified material would be traveling over it.

It would be impossible for the Secretary of State to be effective at her job if she didn’t correspond about topics that had classified material. We don’t have to argue about whether or not she was effective .

So, if for example Clinton only dealt with SECRET materials and they were sent or received in her email, all of the equipment (routers, switches, etc.) would have to be rated for that SIPRNet connection. Also, the space in which the equipment and servers and client computers resided in would also have to meet the specifications for SECRET material. This would include various forms of physical access to the space in the form of secure cards, biometrics, etc. No space rated for SECRET opens with a key from the local hardware store.

That being said, if the room and equipment was rated for SECRET, it would leave a huge paper trail as all the equipment and effort to make the space secure would require procurement and assignment of goods and services. This would mean that the federal government was not only aware of the remote server, but also complicit.

Even a NIPRNet connection would have similar logistics behind it, because of the very nature the connection would have been some type of point to point to the server.

The biggest issue I see here would be is if the server was connected to the public Internet and it resided in a non-DoD-approved space.

Yeah, I’ll say. Other have been pointing this out, and I’ve touched upon it, but Mitch really gets to the heart of a key issue: either the Clinton server room — wherever that was — was SECRET-level secure, and the government was involved in setting it up, or it wasn’t, and that end of the communications link was at risk.

Neither answer looks good for HRC.

Oh, she can purge, but, what was the back-up strategy on that server?

***

Working with DoD (contract), I doubt many people realize the upper and shear amount of ‘B.S.’ one must go through to setup, let alone utilize a secure/secret computer.

The below is for SECRET clearance/work we are/were doing:

- Locks must be changed to ‘compliant’ types (push button, keyed, etc.)
- ‘Security’ of walls must be assured (outside walls must be blocked/hard to access) - no punching through the drywall for entry.
- NO electronics can come into that room, no USB/portables
- Sign-in/out
- Security stickers on each and EVERY piece of equipment for each/EVERY way to open
- Router/firewall/ports must be blocked/locked-out
- Inspections whenever
- No media EVERY leaves the room. Any paper/CD/DVD is cross-shredded before leaving and is re-shredded when taken off site (for burning I presume)

I couldn’t imagine the S* storm that could come down on us for ANY lapse of protocol; even involuntary.

Her server was no doubt completely unsecure. She was using it so transact bribes from foreign donors.

State and Federal agencies have STRICT rules on transmitting data over the public Internet by email, social media, etc. Having that private email server--even if they properly patched it with the latest security updates and properly configured it for maximum security--is still a violation of Federal law in regards to using emails for official business.

No way she was running an unauthorized classified system connected to SIPRnet or JWICS. Huge paper trail and many others involved to setting something like that up. I can certainly believe she was not sending or receiving classified documents marked TS or SCI (attached PDFs or MSWord docs) on a .com account. A more relevant question is if the contents of the typed text were properly marked such as FOUO or SBU or whether any classified info crept into anything she typed or received. Although she had Orignial Classification Authority for State she most certainly was dealing nearly every day with information classified by other authorities. The likelihood that foreign spies were reading her .com emails is very high. I’d lose my clearance and get fired if I did anything close to what she did.

email may NOT retrieve all the relevant Benghazi communications - even if ALL were retrieved.

I read in a poem by a “retired” state dept. employee

“...at a very low frequency(i.e. long wave radio)...”

Such communications would NOT be found on a server...

There is some IT expert that says he traced Hillary’s server to a building in downtown Manhattan and is pretty sure it’s the location.

I think he also said it is near or in the same building as the New York government offices. Wasn’t she a senator of NY?

I think she’s the weakest Dem. We should support her win in the primaries.
But then, we all knew that a parishioner Of Jeremiah Wright couldn’t get elected, too . . .

Were the emails encrypted?
Not for the first 3 months, according to Forbes.

“”In Hillary’s presser she said the secret service were there guarding the server so it’s secure. So a guy standing there in the room with a glock is supposed to guard against hackers? Because that is precisely what she implied.””

That is what I heard but I haven’t seen anyone else pick up on it - not last night or even today. With all the hundreds of other words on the subject, no one has touched on this.

Of course, I took it the same way you did but suppose she meant and didn’t have the brain or ability to say that “the server was put it for her husband AND was secured by Secret Service cyber security procedures.”

Would that make sense? More than what she did say for sure.

“”Who exactly maintains this equipment and the Clinton Foundation network?? A network administrator would have access to everything””

In addition to wanting to keep away from the public her own emails is other correspondence pertaining to any of the foundations’ work. There are offshoots off offshoots of foundations involved in that ONE Clinton Foundation. That is more convoluted than anything Howard Hughes ever put together. It has never been determined in these people’s history just who the mastermind is behind all their shenanigans but I would love to know who put together the foundations... Something like that isn’t put together on the internet with Legal Zoom.......

A U. S. Senator FROM New York - not a NY Senator.
