What do these guys do...just sit around looking for ways to get more money so they can buy more votes? You guys at the Federal, State, and Local gov’t have enough money if you manage it well. Instead of looking for more money, look for ways to lower costs. If you need help, go ask Mitch Daniels, the former governor of Indiana and Treasurer under Reagan.

There is no federal sales tax.
As even the bill’s sponsors admit, local authorities ie states and cities levy sales taxes.
So how and why does the federal government believe it is empowered to dictate the collection of taxes that it neither enacted into law nor collects?

Tax bills must originate in the House. These dolts apparently haven't read the Constitution. It's a bad idea anyway. Sales tax can vary right down to a city level. Collecting the correct amount and remitting to the correct party is going to be complicated and expensive. It is something best done on the ground in a face to face transaction...not from potentially millions of locations far from the seller or buyer.

RE:”

Most taxes are impractical to try to raise by Executive order, and this one especially .
I have not bought a single thing from Amazon.com since October 1 when they started collecting Maryland sales taxes.
They had to because they opened two distribution centers in the state figuring that the tax credits they go for it and and faster delivery would make up for loss in business due to collecting those taxes.
I despise those supporting this bill.

I’ll do so, so long as they pay for all costs involved in collecting and remitting it.
They don’t, I won’t.

Here in Texas, we have to pay the state sales tax from online retailers like Amazon.com, surprised it’s not that way all over the country.
To: PROCON
So an online business would have to send the tax to the where the purchaser lives? This would be a nightmare since buyers live all over the place. I HATE these fricking slimy politicians I hope they all expire soon.

Big business loves this because it puts up another barrier for the little guy who’s trying to compete with them. It is a nightmare for a smaller seller to collect taxes for every tax jurisdiction in the USA. It forces the small sellers to sign up with a big player who has the infrastructure to do this, like Amazon.

With the sub-Democrats and the Democrats in full control of Congress, passage is entirely possible. It would be racist not to pass this tax, you know.
Honestly, what more would a person need to know about a bill other than it was being supported by Dick Durbin?
