After failing to reverse President Barack Obama's action easing deportations of undocumented immigrants, Republicans are redirecting their "anti-amnesty'' efforts to deny a federal tax benefit to families who were previously undocumented.
Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa and 10 of his Republican colleagues introduced legislation Tuesday that would prohibit workers covered by Obama's November immigration order from claiming the earned income tax credit for past years in which they worked without legal papers.
"This tax credit is meant to help the working poor get into the workforce,'' Grassley said in a statement. "It isn't meant to benefit individuals who aren't authorized to work in the United States.'' The tax credit is eligible to working families with children that have incomes lower than $39,131 to $53,267.
While the Republican legislation probably won't garner much support from Democrats, it signifies the Republican Party's plan to try to stop undocumented immigrants from receiving benefits, and their hope that it will help them politically.

If they can’t at the very least stop illegal aliens from fleecing the taxpayers for tens of thousands of dollars they truly are useless.

Whenever it counts, they cave. I am tired of symbolism. I surely support any effort to reign in Obama, but I refuse to give them any credit until they do something. This is the political version of, “Squirrel!”

If the poor working class citizens knew the facts about this, not what the dems tell them, I would imagine they would not be happy.
They will talk big, but in the end cave to El-Presidente once again. We need to get the RINOs out of leadership.
The more I think about it what about tax credits for construction workers who suffered lost revenue to illegal immigrants that didn’t pay taxes at all or have insurance and bonding. Oh yeah, it wouldn’t be a welfare credit it would be a refund.
Yea, the word “former” undocumented immigrants is a hint.

Some foreigners buy the American citizenship, other, the lucky ones, are paid for receiving it.
They are looking the tree and ignoring the forest. 40,000 babies are born yearly in United States from foreigners (mostly from China) that came as tourists after paying over $80,000 to cover all the hospital and doctors care, in order that the pregnant Chinese women have their children born here as American citizens, with no cost to American taxpayers.
In the other hand, throughout our open southern borders, yearly hundreds of thousands of pregnant women come to deliver their new born here with all expenses paid by the American taxpayers and after birth the children enjoy more support and privileges than children born here from American born or from the legal residents.
The solution is to revoke the birth-right citizenship. In most countries the children born of non citizens, even if their foreign parents are legal residents, the children acquire the citizenship of their parents, not of the country where they are born.
The bill will never reach law under Obama.
But it is low hanging political fruit for the GOP.
