"Indycar and nascar these days are kit cars (Gubment racing). No unsanctioned innovation."
Granted, and that both positive and negitive aspects. I certainly didn't like what Indy car racing had become in the days of CART when the 3 or 4 richest teams were the only ones in contention and the other 25 drivers were there merely to fill out the field.

Looks like the Borg-Warner Trophy has been replaced by the Piston Cup.

Mercedes CLR-GTR, during practice for the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Both cars did the same thing, if I recall correctly, and then Mercedes withdrew from the race.

Le Mans has had some spectacular crashes resulting from loss of aero downforce. IIRC, there’s a great slow-motion video of one such incident in Audi’s “Truth in 24” documentary from several years ago.

Last year's Indy 500 had 21 out of country drivers in the 33 car field.
...just ain't the same any more.

Technology produced too much speed and the insurance companies and lawyers put the lid on.

As you probably know, Dallara won the bid for the chassis contract with a lowball number and is making the profit back on replacement parts. Most of the stuff has to be purchased at the company store, so to speak.

“Truth in 24” was a simply awesome documentary. I got hooked on Le 24 Heures du Mans after watching it. Going there is now officially on my bucket list.

Good grief. The moment arm on those front spoilers is going to cause a lot of headache just to keep them attached at the correct angle.

If one of those surfaces gets a ding or out of shape the aerodynamics might become uncontrollable.
