Instead of the local police, Wisconsin's Department of Justice is leading the investigation.
A memorial has been set up to honor Tony Robinson, the unarmed 19-year-old black man who was shot and killed by a veteran white officer. So far, the people in Madison, Wisconsin, have heeded the police department's call for calm,
Hundreds responded to Robinson's death Sunday night with a peaceful prayer vigil, remembering the teen just steps from where he was fatally gunned down.
"I just want everyone to know what Tony was one of the best people I knew," Jack Spaulding said.
Robinson died Friday after an alleged altercation with veteran police officer Matt Kenny.
Kenny, responding to a disturbance call, trailed Robinson to his house and opened fire after the teen allegedly assaulted him. Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said Robinson was shot multiple times.
Although Robinson did have a conviction for armed robbery, his mother insisted her son was a gentle person.
"My son has never been a violent person-- never -- and to die in such a violent, violent way is -- it baffles me," Andrea Irwin said.
Koval said he had Ferguson in the back of his mind: "One: We had a person of color, a young man who was killed by the police, and secondly, that he was unarmed. So to that extent yes, I did have a Ferguson moment."
"Don't pass judgment; the facts will come out," Dane county Boys & Girls Club CEO Michael Johnson urged.
At the Fountain of Life Covenant Church, black men young and old sat down to talk about how to move forward.
"I think one Ferguson is enough, so I don't know why anyone would want another one. I don't think people are seeing the signs of another Ferguson," Alexander Gee said.

I never hear about anyone that I know being convicted of armed robbery.
In fact they never even discuss it as a possible option.

But Robinson wasn’t unarmed during the last home invasion robbery he was convicted of:
Robinson was arrested last April following an armed home invasion at a Madison residence, according to police records. Cops were called to the scene around 6 AM by a neighbor who “spotted several men, one of them armed with a long gun, entering an apartment building,” according to a police report.
Robinson was one of five suspects (each of whom was 18 at the time of their arrest) busted for the home invasion. In October, he pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was later sentenced to six months in jail, though a judge stayed the execution of the custodial term. Robinson was also placed on three years probation, which he began serving in late-December.
Robinson was also the defendant in a paternity action filed last year by a 24-year-old Madison woman. The civil matter ended with a paternity judgment being served on Robinson
On his Twitter account ... On Thursday, he tweeted, “I need a bae to take care of me when I’m off the drugs.” In other tweets, the teen—whose handle included the name “Tony Montana”—frequently referred to marijuana and described himself as a “Real n!gga from the start till the casket shut.” Last June, Robinson made reference to the ankle monitor he was outfitted with after being released on bond in the armed robbery case. “Big bro wants me to come to new york and live with him after my bracelet comes off, hey why not,” he wrote.
Already convicted or armed robbery and then assaults a police officer and gets killed in the process - yet - “my son has never been a violent person”... What the hell qualifies as a violent person in her world???
One good thing about riots is that when the thugs are savaging their own neighborhoods they are usually not out robbing innocent folk, except for the interlopers stupid enough to try to run a business in a black neighborhood, that is.
