No Promotion Unless A Commitment To Diversity Is Demonstrated, Air Force Sec Says

Secretary of the Air Force Deborah James has decided to celebrate Women’s History Month by announcing a set of nine initiatives to increase diversity and inclusiveness in the service. The most notable is a new requirement that unless those aspiring to leadership roles can demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion, they will not be considered for promotion.

James first declared the changes on Wednesday during a “Women and Leadership in National Security” conference at the Center for a New American Security, and justified the new initiatives by proclaiming, “There’s simply no country in the world as widely diverse as the U.S.”

According to James, while there’s been some movement toward diversity in the past, it hasn’t been enough. This new strategy will ensure that the service is able to continue to attract the most talented and able minds. Career-field-development team chairs are now required to conduct analyses to figure out what is blocking “airmen from reaching their highest levels of performance,” as James put it, according to Air Force Times.

Out of all services in the military, the Air Force has the highest percentage of women at 18.9 percent, but the female attrition rate is twice that of the male attrition rate during “mid-career phase.”

One of the initiatives coming to the forefront will allow “top performers” to take up to three years off without risking prospects for future promotion. Additionally, James wants to see more women take up the role of pilot, as this job category is usually dominated by men. But because the exclusion occurs as a result of height requirements — that is, a standing height of 64 to 77 inches and a sitting height of 34 to 40 inches — James has elected to modify the waiver process. Previously, the waiver could only be offered to Air Force Academy Cadets, but James will expand the process to include Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets, meaning that 900 women will now be eligible to become pilots.

For James, women should constitute more than the 25 percent of the applicant pool thy already are. Instead, that rate should be boosted to 30 percent.

“This is not just about how we look. It’s about our readiness. It’s about our capabilities today and for the future. It’s about how we are going to perform as an Air Force… in this very uncertain geopolitical environment,” James stated at the conference.

No, it all started when America abandoned God.

Women assuming male roles, a formula for disaster.

The most successful social engineering has been Truman’s integration of the military. That was clearly done with the intent to make the military a more effective fighting machine.

But this social engineering seems to totally change the mission of the military.

Same here. I told my kids I do not want them to go in the service. Not in this day and age. The only kids I know now who want to go in the service are not qualified.

Wrong, Tomkat, that is the ENTIRE problem.

There is absolutely no excuse for having a woman in the position of Secretary of the Air Force ... or the Army... or the Navy ... or Defense.

My 1st Lieut. son will be stuck at that grade. He is kind and nice to all people, but if diversity means lowered standards, he won’t be able to fake it.

Ok

Of the many AF pilots I know, by marriage and otherwise, and the one I’m married to is known as the former president of the He Man Woman Haters Club - have the voice messages to prove it- not one has ever complained about flying with women

A person can either fly and keep up or NOT.

Short guys cannot fly certain planes.

Nor can tall ones. Ask Mikey Kay.

I can’t reach the top shelf at Whole Foods. I have to depend on the kindness of strangers when I want that box of raisin bran.

But I heard a co worker say, the other day, something about regulations on commerce. I asked him why he thought the governmental restrictors were better at moral decisions than the businessmen and bankers, he was speechless. Answerless

Why is this woman a moral authority? It is stalinesque.

To my extensive knowledge of the Air Force, capable and physically appropriate women have not been kept out of flying, and I have noticed that the fat boy program is much reduced in standards, for women in flying jobs.

So I ask, If a self described, knuckle-dragging Neanderthal of a nail eating yet truly Aryan fighter pilot, who can at the same time be a family man devoted to the community, despite having been repeatedly deployed in battle can figure out for the long haul that being a woman does not prevent someone from being among the best pilots in the world, and consistently, and for decades, treat these women as such, why would he need some arbitrary woman coming along, throwing her rank around to tell him how to treat others?.

What is HER claim to moral superiority?

The government has got it into some people’s heads that somehow they are morally superior, when in fact they are corrupt, anticonstitutional, illogical sniveling bullies with no true regard among their families and communities.

And it will be over at one point for them

It’s a farce.

The very words spoken to a gathering of aircrew I was in by General Bennie Davis (CINCSAC) in the 80s. He also went on to say, “If it is broke you better be all over it or I’ll be all over you.” How I pine for the good old days of Strategic Air Command (SAC). This touchy feely stuff of the 21st Century Air Force makes me sick to my stomach.

It doesn’t matter what kind of leader you are. What matters is how down with the struggle you are.

Yup. Very slow. There was a split E-4 rank when I was in. Senior Airman for a year, and then Sergeant. Not sure how it’s done, now. I made Sergeant in spite of myself, and got the Hell out after 4 years.

You are correct, I knew an E-4 who retired after 20 years with a spotless record.

Hmmm. Sounds fishy. I knew a dope that was an E-5 after nearly 20 years, but that was almost unheard of.
