The Mormons have made a compromise with the gay gestapo in Utah. Non-discrimination law for gays in housing and employment. In return, pro-gay employers can’t fire devout Christians who share their faith on their own time. Also, churches and their affiliates are exempt as are businesses with less than 15 employees. That means Brigham Young can still expel gay students. Under the bill, people like the fired black Atlanta fire chief would be protected.
Gays in Utah support the bill. Gay groups outside of Utah are warily of the bill. Reasonable compromise?
This is a statement of Bishop, and Stake President, Mitt Romney, a Mormon church leader who has excommunicated people from his religion and the 2012 Republican presidential nominee.
1994-—”We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clintons dont ask, dont tell, dont pursue military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nations military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.”
