For the first time, the General Social Survey -- a large, national survey conducted every two years and widely considered to represent the gold standard for public opinion research -- shows a majority of Americans favoring the legalization of marijuana.

In interviews conducted between March and October of last year -- when the legal marijuana markets in Colorado and Washington were ramping up -- researchers asked 1,687 respondents the following question: "Do you think the use of marijuana should be made legal or not?"

Fifty-two percent said pot should be legalized, 42 percent opposed it, and another 7 percent were undecided. Support is up 9 percentage points from 2012 the last time the survey was conducted.

The GOP just took control of the Colorado Senate and cut the democrat lead in the house from 37D-28R to 34D-31R.

Both pot and Republicans had a smashing performance in the 2014 election!

But think about all the jobs created.
The drug warriors love big invasive government while pretending to be small government “keep your hands off my guns, religion, education, nutrition, social contacts” professors of freedom.
It is why we have no knock warrants, home invasions and police searches while traveling.
It must be too much freedom that is the problem.

The biggest fear the Liberals have is that there will be too many people on this planet. Smoking marijuana reduces the sex drive. The Liberals are really happy when you smoke marijuana.

When americans are mostly high they won’t know what their voting for...

WAIT!...... didn’t that happen 30 years ago?..

In 1984? Reagan got 59% of the popular vote and carried 49 states. The electoral vote was 525-13.

Smoking marijuana reduces the sex drive.

That is the opposite of the Reefer Madness message.

My bad. I gave you the results for CO. The 1,687 sample size looks to be about mid-way compared to the sizes of other pollsters => http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

Gee, I wonder if the increase in depicting drug use as neutral or even positive by the media has had an impact...

I can tell you the Libertarians have been lying about it going on 5 decades now.

We are the new Rome, and pot, welfare and television are the new bread and circuses.

Obama’s America.

A nation of dopeheads.

Exactly what I said. With the Military being more interested in making sure the "transgender" nutjobs feel good about them selves and we have a choom smoking idiot running the nation, then yes, we are indeed a nation of dope heads.

The war in drugs is stupid and destructive

Perhaps, but the lack of a "war in drugs" (sic) is even stupider, and even more destructive.

Reefer Madness redux.

If you dope legalizers aren't talking about "prohibition" and how Heroin and Alcohol are exactly alike, the only other talking point you can think of is "reefer madness."

Given the large numbers of crackpot murderers who are stoked up on weed when they commit their crimes, perhaps "Reefer Madness" is not so far fetched after all? Certainly "Idiocracy" turned out to be right on the money.

It’s interesting that 1,687 respondents are a statistically correct way to determine a national majority.

I didn't even bother to read the article. Most of these pro-dope articles are crap anyways, but you've put your finger on the salient aspect here. It's the dope brigade that are the "respondents".

The War on Drugs is a total failure.

And this is Goebbels like propaganda spread by liars and idiots. A failure is 100 million people addicted to drugs, like what happened in China when *THEY LOST* their "war on drugs."

The only people that are passionate for it to continue are lawyers, the bail bond business, prison guards, private prison corporations, the police, the liquor industry, and control freaks on both the left and right.

You left out SANE PEOPLE who are not IDIOTS. I wish I could toss people like you right into the middle of the drug culture and if you manage to get out alive, perhaps you would learn the folly of such stupid ideas.

We have lost so many rights in this war on the only result is a boated, expensive, corrupt, and ineffective police state while drug use has gone up and criminal cartels have become rich and powerful.

Of fer Christ's sake, you propaganda spreaders never stop. You want to see what loss of freedom looks like? Look at China, which legalized drugs. Drugs destroyed their economy and their society, and before all the death and destruction stopped, they had a dictator.

You wreck society, you end up with a dictator. You don't like the "War on Drugs" , but the fire is not an improvement over the frying pan.

The drug warriors love big invasive government while pretending to be small government “keep your hands off my guns, religion, education, nutrition, social contacts” professors of freedom.

How about you just stop your d@mn lying? Nobody wants to hear this crap. Drugs aren't "freedom", they are d@mn recreational vice that turns people into worthless parasites who depend on others for their support.

I'm one of those people who don't want to be paying the bills for these idiots.

It must be too much freedom that is the problem.

Will I ever again see the day when the word "Freedom" is not polluted by dope smoking freaks who think the sky will fall if they can't get their high?

Drugs have been banned since 1914, (with weed added in the 30s) and OH MY GOD!!!! What a horribly unfree country we've had ever since!!!!!

You f***ing dope smoking drama queens need to get a real life and stop projecting your delusions on everyone. You are bringing real tyranny, but you are just completely oblivious to it.

Your dope smoking President is so far the biggest threat to our freedom that' i've seen.

Give up the illusion of control that “criminalizing” human nature gives you. I worry more about atheist driving Christianity and traditional America out of the public square than I do potheads. I worry more about lock’em up freaks puting American youth in prisons for petty drug possession crimes so prison imams can convert them into Islimes.

All you are doing is increasing the power of the state to control you...
