Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) suggested Saturday that the Justice Departments criminal corruption charges against Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) are political retribution against the New Jersey Democrat for opposing the White Houses negotiations with Iran.
Cruz made the allegations to a throng of reporters jammed into the corner of a tent outside the Iowa Ag Summit in Des Moines without even having been asked about the Menendez criminal charges.
Menendez has been a vocal critic of the White House as the Obama administration has sought to wrap up delicate talks with Iranian leaders over the future of their nuclear program.
He’s supposed to be pro Israel too.
Cruz is right, but that doesn’t mean Menendez isn’t a crook.
“Well Stalin would shoot a few to keep the others in line”
The’d do that too if they thought they’d get away with it. Then come to think of it, that’s what they did with Benghazi.
That’s interesting and I never considered that point.
However, this investigation started long before the comments on Iran.
No. It’s not an Hispanic brethren card
He doesn’t carry one. He is an intelligent person who uses his intelligence
It is his ‘lets recognize Iran for what it is and this deal for what it is’ brethren card
Just duh
They will do anything to anybody to shove their agenda and destruction of America forward. Including going after their own fellow Dems.
Dems, you were warned. You didn’t listen.
Loooooong before. Almost like a threat.
“However, this investigation started long before the comments on Iran.”
Yeah, but you have to have the “evidence,” just in case. The problem with most of the elected and appointed people in DC from both parties is that they are all dirty, so they are easy marks for retribution. Lyndon Johnson used to talk about “having their peckers in his pocket,” which in Menendez’ case is more than a metaphor.
This is probably the club held over the heads of a good many Democrat legislators - opposition research has already exhaustively searched out and studied all the weaknesses and secrets of their less than totally reliable allies, and indictments have already been written and in a drawer or on a computer file somewhere in the Just-Us Department. A whisper in the ear of the suspect turncoat, reminding them that certain things are “known”, is all that is needed to keep most of them in line.
The late US Congressman (D-Ohio)James Traficant was found to be “unfit” as a Democrat, and was tried and convicted on charges that would never have come to light with a more compliant member.
Former Senator Robert Torricelli, also by coincidence from New Jersey, was tarnished by revelations of receiving illegal campaign contributions, again not necessarily a charge that would have been raised against a more compliant member, and was forced out of the reelection bid in 2002, replaced by a truly incompetent (but compliant) Frank Lautenberg.
When the game looks like it might be going against the wishes of the puppetmasters, time to kick over the chess board.
Cruz always standing upright in front of his opponents sticking, jabbing, bruising, circling, waiting for an opening, taking every advantage, controlling the ring causing fear if they attempt an attack, locking them up in the corners, bouncing them off the ropes, wearing them down drawing blood, slowly methodically pummeling them into exhaustion, all the while taunting them with a smile of confidence and assurance in his stance.
Simply the greatest fighter to enter the political ring in many decades, all the makings of a world class champion prepared to go the distance.
I’d have thought the Dem Senators would be cocky enough to resent outside pressure on one of their own.
But then they’re not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.
I’m hoping Menendez and Manchin jump. We need all the votes on natsec we can get, even if they are pure RAT in every other department. Jump into Cruz’ arms, he knows how to defend a case the limp**** Holder prosecutes.

Cruz continued. This investigation has been going on for over a year
Was “The Hill” the only source to report this ? What about the rest of the media 3rd cooks from the “MSM alphabet liars soup kitchen” ? Weren’t they present when Cruz made that charge ? This a demonstration of how our goose step media works .Nothing makes the news unless approved by “publications of record” sources.
I really like Cruz for his going to bat for conservative causes, but wasn’t the Statute of Limitations about to run out on bringing charges against Menendez? If so, perhaps they had to bring them or go home.
Nope. The timing IS politically motivated. No question about that. And it’s calculated to fire a shot across the bows and intimidate any Democrat that is even thinking of challenging the Kenyan in any way. It’s the Chicago way. Al Capone has nothing on Obama when it comes to blackmail, threats, intimidation and strong arm tactics. Makes you wonder what Obozo has on Boehner and McConnell.
Anybody who thinks that Sen. Menendezs criticisms of Obama over Iran and Cuba had nothing to do with this doesnt understand how the regime works.
Cruz is right, but that doesnt mean Menendez isnt a crook.
...
True, but the Obama DOJ doesn’t go after crooks, it goes after political enemies. In this case the two overlap.
Menendez is a crook, and I can’t stand him. But then so is Al Sharpton(and literally thousands of other Democrats), who arguably is guilty of far more federal crimes than Menendez. Can’t see Holder bringing charges against Sharpton and other corrupt Democrats.
And Menendez is right on Iran. He is being punished for daring to oppose The Messiah on Iran.
Whatever it is Obama may be using to blackmail both Boehner and McConnell into compliance is likely something in today’s world seen as very minor. What could it be’ in his freshmen college year,
John Boehner was caught drunk (though deeply tanned) in a Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store, attempting to shoplift a full 24 count box of 5th Avenue Candy Bars, some Aunt Jemimah Instant Pancake Mix, an OPENED pint of Everclear grain alcohol, and a bottle of Hai Karate aftershave. Mitch’s ‘sin’? Escort Service on Prom Night in High School. It was either that, or go alone!
