“It still seems like it would be hard to get by, and a very insecure way to live.

Maybe some of them actually have money? You don’t need much of an inheritance, $750K will yield $30K a year if properly invested.”

Its a mentality. I know a woman with a dirt bag boyfriend in tow that blew through an inheritance of 1/2 a million dollars from her deceased dad in a few years. Now her “boyfriend” is gone and she’s left with a kid and going to the food pantry.

If it wasn’t for her sheer stupidity, she’d be comfortably living right now with the right management. Her dad must be rolling over in his grave after busting his ass all his life thinking he was taking care of his daughter after he was gone only to have it totally pissed away.

It nothing short of a mortal sin.

I agree. there is a huge number of people who have basically dropped out and are in the underground economy.

“I’ve heard jokes that illegal aliens get to ignore tax law working under the table and immigration law - and compromise would be letting them stay if Americans get to ignore the tax law, too.”

This is the problem with how we live today. Government has effectively created two parallel societies. One that works hard and respects the law and the other that flaunts it with government backing and protection. And the people busting their asses are starting to get very pissed about it.
