OAKLAND - Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf made a pitch Wednesday morning for the 82 percent of Oakland voters who passed a minimum wage hike in November to support local businesses struggling to adjust to higher costs.

"It's time for Oaklanders to put their money where their votes were," Schaaf said at a news conference outside of Farley's East coffee shop on Grand Avenue.

But of course if all those goods things would happen if employers raised the minimum wage to $13.00 an hours and profits would go up, they would have already done so.

If in fact an increase in the wage, reduced turnover, brought in more productive employees, and so forth net income could possibly go up. Henry Ford proved that in 1914 with his $5.00 a day wage (double the going rate at the time).

Even with lousy tips they can make more than an extra 4 dollars an hour. At least they won’t have to bother themselves with giving good service!

Next this economic illiterate will clamor for subsidies to help the small business pay their employees. Its the California way... unfortunately.

Or as Ronald Reagan said about Lefty policy: "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it."

"It's time for Oaklanders to put their money where there votes are"

LOL! Democrat voters only vote for free stuff for themselves. That "shared sacrifice" noise is only for other people.

“We believe in paying our employees a fair wage”

“We believe in paying our employees a fair wage.”

Did he believe that before the law passed?

About five years ago my wife and I flew into Oakland and while waiting for the BART to go to SF, I felt like I was in a scene from Book of Eli. We literally caught the next bus to the airport and went back to Seattle.

I lived in Vallejo in the early 60’s. That area has completely changed.

It was just going to be a day trip...

Oakland looks like a war zone, and thats not an exageration.

Both the Hel’s ANgels and the Black Panthers...were born In Oakland...

One doesn’t have to look too hard to understand how that could have happened

I notice more people ordering water when I eat out. It could be a health thing, but I think it's to save money.

There are also those that fill their water cups with soda which is just plain theft.

In any case it ends up being less money going to the restaurant, and ultimately more restaurant closures.

And there have been a lot of restaurant closures in my area lately.

Soft drinks is where they make most of their profit.

And I know people order water to save money.

The minimum wage is for two things... for unions to get raises based on increase in the minimum wage, and for the big-government/big-union/big-corporate crony-fascist complex to force small businesses out of business because they don't like competition.

The last year that the black unemployment rate was lower than the white unemployment rate was the year the first federal minimum wage law was passed.
