It was disconcerting to watch Congress cheer wildly as a foreign leader, the prime minister of one of America's closest allies, trashed an American president's foreign policy. It was equally strange that the speaker of our House of Representatives interjected the United States Congress into an Israeli political campaign.
It fell to Isaac Herzog, Benjamin Netanyahu's leading opponent in Israel's March 17 election, to make the essential point: that Tuesday's speech was "a very harsh wound to Israel-U.S. relations" and "will only widen the rift with Israel's greatest ally and strategic partner."
The rapturous greeting Congress bequeathed on Netanyahu for his attack on President Obama's approach to negotiations with Iran no doubt created great footage for television ads back home and won him some votes at the right end of Israel's electorate.
But Herzog's observation stands: John Boehner's unprecedented act of inviting the leader of another nation to criticize our own president, and Netanyahu's decision to accept, threaten to damage the bipartisan and trans-ideological coalition that has always come together on behalf of Israel's survival.
Netanyahu may have spoken the words, "We appreciate all that President Obama has done for Israel," but the rest of his speech painted the president as foolish and on the verge of being duped on a nuclear deal by the mullahs in Tehran.
The Israeli leader reached for the most devastating metaphor available to him, the appeasement of the Nazis that led to the Holocaust. He urged the United States "not to sacrifice the future for the present" and "not to ignore aggression in the hopes of gaining an illusory peace." This is what he was accusing Obama of doing. No wonder House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi described herself as "near tears" over Netanyahu's "condescension toward our knowledge of the threat posed by Iran."

I believe that most of the hysterical reaction on the part of the Democrats is that Netanyahu provided such a contrast to our wimpy POTUS. The difference in the tone, sincerity, and maturity between the two leaders jumped through the screens into USA homes.
drivelous balderdash penned by a former American
Not sure what polls you’re looking at but this guy
is keeping up with latest polls.
They show little change with Likud trailing Labor slightly.
Well ... BOTH are true!
The first part — Congress loves Netanyahu and Israel (for the most part, not counting the Congressional protestors).
The second part — it was a very harsh wound to US-Israeli relations ... that being “Obama-Israeli relations”, which was meant by the writer.
Yes, BOTH are true!
Cheer up, drama queen.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the author failed to mention that not only did BiBi’s speech to the US Congress hurt Obama, but from the looks of things it also hurt the Democrats and the Main Stream Media.
The Democrats , Obama, and his Administration tried to paint BiBi coming here to give a speech as “ controversial “ however ? In hindsight they are the controversy.
Controversy that the MSM didn’t show his speech live except Fox News, CSpan, MSNBC, the rest in their cencership chose not to show BiBi’s speech.
Nancy Pelosi with her antics on the house floor while BiBi spoke, and the other Democrats refused to applaud.
Then finally Obama’s childish, arrogant response to BiBi’s.
BiBi’ speech showed how’s the real adults in Washington and responsible citizens of this world.
Creating a legacy for one’s self is not forgien policy.
That’s because it’s the SAME IRAN as in 2011 ... LOL ...
Its not the PM that has created or left a wound. Emperor Obama has done that for 6+ years. The spasms the White House went through is clear evidence that they knew how effective the speech would be. And it was.
For the RINOs it's only about votes: they think that cheering Bibi gets them Jewish votes and supporting open borders gets them Hispanic votes. Wrong on both counts, boys. Of course, we're the ones who pay the price for their vote trolling when it comes to the borders.
Well ... “all Israelis” except for the ones who are trying to vote Netanyahu out of office in a few weeks! ... :-) ...
Interesting take - EJ equates the United States with 0bama. Like he’s some emperor and EJ acknowledges it.
Yeah, I’ve been waiting for his comments .. I was not disappointed .. he was doing his usual and cheerleading for the DemocRATS.
It’s just a cheesy T-shirt solgan.
Sure. Unless they have the power. Then it is just wrong.
Hey, EJ... you really seem to think this was a political speech instead of a notification to the world of an existential threat? I guess that’s how democRats think - all the time. It was probably “racist” too, right?
How does it feel, also, knowing that Net’s IQ is about 3X Obama’s?
In other words, a conversation between Net and Barry would be like a convo between Barry and Bo.
Well, you’re not the only one who feels that way about Obama’s unconstitutional actions, but you’re probably the only one (or just a very few) that feel that way about ISRAEL.
ISRAEL happens to be the ONLY NATION in the world that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has GUARANTEED its continuation in being a nation ... FOREVER. He has NOT guaranteed the survival of the USA.
ALSO Israel will rule over the USA and will THROW OUT THE WINDOW the U.S. Constitution, and will rule the USA by Israel’s own laws, when the Messiah of Israel returns to earth.
People better get prepared for that ... which is about to happen. It’s very close to being implemented!
E. J. swerves into the truth and vows to be more careful in the future.
That was why Pelosi was crying.
The president’s foreign policy is to surrender to Iran. That’s not a policy to get behind. Netanyahu is doing the world a favor.
