I gave up on WLS when they dropped conservatives Dan Proft and Bruce Wolf and replaced them with moderate John Howell. They put Steve Dahl in the afternoon slot, who basically just talks about his life experiances. I didn't know that Kass and Cohn got dumped.

I listen to most of my radio on WIND 560 now since Dan Proft moved over there , and they have Joe Walsh in the 5PM slot. I expect Rush will go to WIND to replace Dennis Miller in the midday slot.

All WLS has left for me is Mark Levin, but he doesn't come on till 9PM.

LS appears to be getting desperate, and if they drop Rush, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go on life support.

Proft and Wolf were great for local stuff; Roeper was a predictable leftie, but I liked Conn, who was all over the place but could be amusing in a wacky sort of way. Kass was not made for radio, but one could count on him to tell it like it is, and he was one of the few voices in the city with any influence who had the guts to call out the Machine at both the city and state level. Interesting how he got his pink-slip just as Rahm was being shown he might be on the way out the door.

They’re all gone, replaced by Dahl, who is well-past his sell-by date, along with his posse of mindless toadies; most of the rest of the day is a bunch of non-entities. How the station expects to draw ears without Rush as its anchor is beyond me, but they’re clearly not doing anything to retain any conservative listenership he might bring in.

I have fond memories of the music-based WLS AM battling WCFL for audience - it now looks like they’re trying their best to follow WCFL to the radio graveyard.

Since I moved from Chicago, on occasion I’ll put on WLS on the net. Kass was kind of slow and dull but he is usually a straight shooter who doesn’t kiss all the Chicago Pols butts or fear them. He had courage and I believe he was the guy who showed me what Obama was all about when there was still some mystery mid 2000s. He was the first guy that I read who exposed the clever bribe Rezko gave Obama.

WLS has no idea what to do, it’ll be musical chairs for years.
