March 4th was Presidential Inauguration Day from 1793 till 1933, when it was changed by the
20th Amendment to January 20th. Many presidents gave warnings in their inaugural addresses.

James Monroe, March 4, 1817, Inaugural Address

“It is only when the people become ignorant and corrupt, when they degenerate into a populace, that they are incapable of exercising the sovereignty. … Usurpation is then an easy attainment, and an usurper soon found. … The people themselves become the willing instruments of their own debasement and ruin.”

Franklin Pierce, March 4, 1853, Inaugural Address

“The dangers of a concentration of all power in the General government of a confederacy so vast as ours are too obvious to be disregarded. … You have a right … to expect your agents in every department to regard strictly the limits imposed upon them by the Constitution. … Liberty rests upon a proper distribution of power between the State and Federal authorities.”

Abraham Lincoln, March 4, 1861, first Inaugural Address

“The candid citizen must confess that if the policy of the Government upon vital questions affecting the whole people is to be irrevocably fixed by decisions of the Supreme Court, the instant they are made. … the people will have ceased to be their own rulers, having to that extent practically resigned their Government into the hands of the eminent tribunal.”

Theodore Roosevelt, March 4, 1905, Inaugural Address

“If we fail, the cause of free self-government throughout the world will rock to its foundations, and therefore our responsibility is heavy, to ourselves, to the world as it is today, and to the generations yet unborn.”

John F. Kennedy, Jan. 20, 1961, Inaugural Address

“The same revolutionary beliefs

There are lots of really great quotes from American history from our former Presidents. (Yeah, the "politicians" in most cases probably didn't believe what they were saying, but most Americans knew the information to be true.

Great material to share with your lib friends.

They never forsaw the day when a rouge, criminal president, who openly defied the law and the constitution,
would have the solid backing of half the senate, half of congress and 95% of the press and other media.

1961:

“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”

2015:

“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what your country can do for illegal aliens, criminals, muslim terrorists and rouge politicians.”

There is something I noticed during CPAC that lines up with the point of this article.

When most of the potential candidates spoke they referred to what stuff they would do to "re-train" the American people better than Obama has done. With one exception - Ted Cruz. He gets it just like Ronald Reagan did.

All of the presidents listed in the article, even as democrats, believed that the people are capable of not being micro-managed.

Lesson? The only criteria for president should whether the person truly understands that his job is not to tell us what to do but to get the hell out of the way and only do exactly what the Constitution commands him to do.

No more fundamental transformation of America.

We got rid of the bonds that tied us once. We can do it again if we have to.

The word is “Rogue” not rouge. I’ am sure you did not intend to use a French word meaning “Red”. Or did you? d;^)

The first quote, the one by Monroe, says it all... it’s very early in the history of the US, but says usurpation is around the corner once the electorate loses interest. “The usurper will soon be found.”

Good catch! I don’t know why you got some negative references in early comments.

Because even though I have been a freeper in spirit and lurking for many years, I just signed up last month. I’ve seen this treatment of newbies before and expected it. If they are interested in reading through my comments to see where I’m coming from they could.
