Netanyahu: For the first time in 100 generations, we, the Jewish people, can defend ourselves

"They are the most glorious Nation that ever inhabited this Earth. The Romans and their Empire are but a bauble in comparison of the Jews. They have given religion to three-quarters of the Globe and have influenced the affairs of Mankind more, and more happily than any other Nation, ancient or modern." - John Adams

God bless the Jews!

Dumb question on my part, but why can they defend themselves now when they could not do it before?

“Dumb question on my part, but why can they defend themselves now when they could not do it before?”

Because they were scattered across the globe with no land of their own from 70 A.D. to 1948.

Bibi most likely meant alone - they did okay in the wars since 1948 ....

Is that about 4000 (40 X 100) years? That’s close to when Israel was created. I thought they defended themselves a few times since then...

He may be hinting about the nuclear bombs Israel has, but don’t tell anyone, it’s a secret!

A generation is about 25 years.

He was using a bit of hyperbole - but it was actually 1878 years from the destruction of the Second Temple until Israeli independence in 1948. It is more like 75 generations (or 62, if you count a generation as 30 years), but 100 is more poetic. Also, I am sure that some families have had 100 generations - marriages used to be a lot earlier in life than right now.

Israel is a tiny country with a relatively small population.
Bibi was all but stating “Israel has nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them”, making clear that the Obama administration had better make an imperative of stopping Iran from building nukes, or Israel will perform a preemptive strike - which, given the well-publicized extreme protection of Iran’s nuclear weapon production facilities, WILL INVOLVE DETONATING NUCEAR WEAPONS - SOON.

This speech was about as close to a flat-out threat of imminent war as could be delivered in polite company without actually starting one.

Nuke Weapons. Probably even hydrogen bombs. The exact number they have is undetermined, but it is estimated they have enough to kick pretty much anyone's @ss in the region.

They also have delivery systems.

Isn’t it awesome that Bibi made this speech during the season of Purim?

The Biblical parallels are beautiful. I am certain the scheduling was not accidental—by God’s providence.

That’s an interesting question- some genealogists consider 25 years to be one generation, but I believe that it should be 33 and 1/3 years. I think that my number is closer to the average generation. I believe that it is the approximate midpoint of a woman’s normal childbearing span, from young 20’s to mid 40’s. And yes, I’m perfectly aware that childbirth is possible at a younger age.
