White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed Monday that President Obama is "very interested" in the idea of raising taxes through unilateral executive action.
"The president certainly has not indicated any reticence in using his executive authority to try and advance an agenda that benefits middle class Americans," Earnest said in response to a question about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling on Obama to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action.
"Now I don't want to leave you with the impression that there is some imminent announcement, there is not, at least that I know of," Earnest continued. "But the president has asked his team to examine the array of executive authorities that are available to him to try to make progress on his goals. So I am not in a position to talk in any detail at this point, but the president is very interested in this avenue generally," Earnest finished.
Sanders sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Friday identifying a number of executive actions he believes the IRS could take, without any input from Congress, that would close loopholes currently used by corporations. In the past, IRS lawyers have been hesitant to use executive actions to raise significant amounts of revenue, but that same calculation has change in other federal agencies since Obama became president.

I miss the rule of law.
This would be just like taking my money away at gunpoint.
Why not? Congress has shown they will roll over for him on just about anything else. This is the logical next step.
Of course he is. Never mind what the Constitution says about where the power to levy a tax resides. That would be the ‘legal’ version of taxation.
Just like?! That is the ONLY way government has ever done it!
Since these tax increases are without doubt illegal what would happen if those to be fleeced just refused to pay them? Ditto for taxes on individuals. The IRS would be swamped with non payment cases..too many to pursue and the courts would presumably through them out anyway. What is needed is resistance to Obama’s lawlessness.
At some point soon I expect Obama to use an executive order to appoint a horse to the Senate just as Caligula did. That will show everyone who's boss. But have no fear, McConnell will protest mightily. He'll say "you didn't give us enough time to modify the seating arrangements to accomodate our new equine Senator! Please, we need another 30 days before we can seat him."
if congress allows obozo to hike taxes on his own he can do what ever he wants (he already is) to include nullify the constitution (it already is) and order the disarming of America (its already started)
The rule of law is on life support and sliding into a coma.
What rule of law. There in only the rule of law as by King Obama. He is the rule of law.
Where is the House? Where is the Senate?
Either these guys are in on the totalitarian takeover, or he has some really damaging goods on them.
Are there no courageous statesmen in the whole of Washington? What a breathtaking moment we are witnessing in our country’s history.
Before his term is up, he might do another thousand illegal things, and the gutless old party will do nothing to stop him, because they don’t want to be called racists. They wouldn’t mind seeing the country destroyed, as long as no one hangs the R word on them.
The king has a plan.
Go ahead I’m not paying these either commie pinko fag.
Of course, it’s illegal and unconstitutional, but who is going to stop him?
The only thing that I can think of as to why the House or the Senate are not doing anything is that they will use it to tell the rest of us, “see what happens when you vote RAT in elections” But then again, I don’t think our current leaders are smart enough to figure that out
